Mayim Bialik is perhaps best known for her role as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on "The Big Bang Theory,” but Bialik's character isn't the only one with a PhD. In fact, Bialik's background made her a natural fit for the part of Amy.

Bialik, who holds a PhD in neurosciences, was one of the few actors on set who actually knew what she was talking about. She majored in neuroscience as an undergraduate at UCLA before continuing on to the PhD program.

Bialik noted that her science background aided her in playing Amy, especially when it came to learning her lines. She's thrilled to have had the chance to play a neuroscientist on television, because she was able to “provide girls with as many realistic science situations as possible."
