It might be hard to remember a time when Prince William and Kate Middleton were not together, but they were broken up in 2004 when the future king was reportedly smitten with actress Isabella Calthorpe. Here is a look at all the facts — and rumors — about their short-lived fling.
2004
It was clear that William had a thing for Calthorpe in 2004 when they began spending a lot of time together. Author Katie Nicholl appears to believe that Calthorpe was the cause of William and Middleton's 2004 split, saying that Calthorpe "said it would be too damaging for her and her career."
Boys Trip
William and Kate's split in 2004 began with a so-called boys-only sailing trip in Greece, where he reportedly asked to have a female-only crew for his friends and him. Despite insisting to Kate that the trip was only for his male buddies, other friends happened to be in the area — including Isabella.
Jealousy
Kate seemed to put up with women giving William attention quite well, but when it came to Isabella, she was very jealous and couldn't cope with the rumors of their involvement. In 2005, when William spent most of his time at a ball talking to Calthorpe, Kate was furious and stormed out.
