Despite divorcing her adoptive mother, Brenda Harvey, Lionel Richie remained a devoted father to a young Nicole Richie and gave her nothing but fond memories to share.
Nicole was born to Lionel's bandmate, Peter Michael Escovedo. Initially, Lionel decided to become Nicloe's legal guardian because he believed she was living in an unstable home.
Lionel opened up to People about officially adopting Nicole when she was nine years old, describing her as a blessing. "She was a little girl who needed a shot," he explained.
While Lionel provided Nicole with a wonderful childhood, the singer told Diane Sawyer that he often felt like he "wasn't a good dad" due to his frequent touring.
However, Nicole has nothing but positive sentiments about her adoptive father and she didn’t hesitate to share them during her interview with Larry King on CNN.
"I remember him [Lionel] coming down in the kitchen in the morning and singing songs, and us playing," Nicole fondly recalled while talking to Larry King.
