The Truth About Christina Hall's Children
The world of HGTV is made up of tranquil Texas towns, twin brothers who outbid one another, renovators and their real estate counterparts, and — of course — house flippers. No two people were so associated with the house flipping industry than Tarek El Moussa and Christina (then El Moussa, now Hall), the stars of the hit show "Flip or Flop." Not only were these two pros when it came to the industry itself, but the then-married couple made it seem as though house flipping was an integral part of their relationship. The blonde beauty and the fiery fixer brought a dynamic on-screen energy to viewers — mix this with beautiful home renovations and a profit, and you've got dynamite television. But all good things must come to an end.
Some viewers weren't entirely surprised when Tarek and Christina announced their divorce. Their chemistry on-screen became more intertwined with arguments and vengeful disagreements as "Flip or Flop" continued, and Tarek's blow-up at their home — which resulted in the police being called — seemed to be the final straw. The two made it clear that their children would remain their priority, and to the surprise of many, Tarek and Christina continued their professional journey together. Since their divorce, both parties have gotten married to other people — twice in Christina's case — and their blended family continues to grow. Given that she has three marriages and three children under her belt, it's no wonder people have questions about Christina's kids.
Christina Hall and Tarek El Moussa share two children
Before they were HGTV stars, Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall tied the knot and started a family together. As noted by Showbiz CheatSheet, the two exchanged vows in 2009 and welcomed their first child — daughter Taylor — in 2010 after undergoing IVF treatment. Five years later, with a hit HGTV show in the works, Christina gave birth to the couple's second child, son Brayden, rounding out the family of four.
Of course, we all know what happened to the on-screen couple and business partners. As noted by Us Weekly, things truly came to a head when the Orange County Sheriff's Department was called to the El Moussa house in 2016. Officers told the publication that 11 deputies were sent to the home, as a "possibly suicidal male with a gun" was posing a threat to safety. A witness also said they observed Tarek "run out of his back door, jump over his back fence and walk northbound into the hiking trails of the Chino Hills State Park," with a "crying and shaking" Christina behind him.
That was the final straw, and the couple's divorce was imminent. CheatSheet noted that Tarek and Christina settled on joint custody of Taylor and Brayden, applying to both the children's legal and physical decisions.
Christina and Tarek highlighted their dedication to their kids
Christina Hall and Tarek El Moussa's separation and divorce were rife with tension, stress, and rumblings about domestic violence. But when the couple announced that they were bringing their marriage to a close, they highlighted their shared dedication to their kids. In a statement to Us Weekly, Tarek and Christina said that like any other couple, they had their "challenges," but that they were dedicated to their two kids above anything else.
"We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed," the couple first and foremost stated in their separation announcement, addressing the alarming reports that were released about Tarek's outburst. "Together, we have decided to separate while we reevaluate the future of our marriage. During this process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be," the couple continued. "We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together." That last part — referencing the couple's hit HGTV show and their intentions to continue filming — certainly came as a surprise to fans.
In their first joint interview since divorcing, Christina and Tarek talked about co-parenting
Two years after announcing that they were going their separate ways, Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall finally addressed their divorce and their commitment to co-parenting their two children — Taylor, who was 8 years old at the time, and Brayden, who was just 3. In a sit-down interview with NBC's "Today," the former married couple dished that while they couldn't see eye to eye personally, they were committed to riding the "up and down, up and down" waves of parenting their two "amazing kids."
"We shot the pilot in [the] summer of 2011, so we've been doing this for a really long time," Tarek said of their continued professional partnership. "It's part of who we are and what we do, and for us to just throw everything away, it just wasn't worth it." Adding that their kids would always be their priority, Christina added, "it's just easier to work together and get along."
Tarek gave further insight into how the couple was splitting up the time with their kids, sharing with NBC that he would be spending Christmas of 2018 with Taylor and Brayden, taking them to Vail, Colorado for a ski trip. The two made it clear that they were committed to working together in their kids' best interest.
Christina Hall's kids spoke highly of her second husband, Ant Anstead
While Tarek El Moussa stayed out of the dating scene for quite a while following his separation from Christina Hall, the "Flip or Flop" co-host made it clear that she was interested in getting back out there. She crossed paths with Discovery star Ant Anstead, and the two got married in December 2018. Of his kids' exposure to his ex-wife's new husband, Tarek told People that he was comforted by Ant's positive influence, sharing that his kids had nothing but nice things to say about the new man in her life.
"I ask my kids about things they do, and what's going on, and they always say good things about him," Tarek said of Ant. "So as a father, it's good to know that there's hopefully a good man in my kids' lives besides me."
While Tarek's relationship with his ex-wife's new husband didn't extend past a "hello," he did share that he was pleased Hall didn't tie the knot with a "sh***y guy" who would've been a negative presence in Taylor and Brayden's lives. Of Taylor's adjustment specifically, Tarek shared, "She's smart. She knows what's going on. She knows how the world works. I think for her, maybe it's a good thing too, to get some security in her life. I think stability is great."
Christina Hall gave birth to a son, Hudson, in 2019
Christina Hall made it clear that she was ready to start a new life — and expand her family — with Ant Anstead after they tied the knot in December 2018. Less than a year after exchanging vows, Christina and Ant welcomed their first — and only — child into the world, a little boy named Hudson. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Christina wrote that she and Ant brought little Hudson into the world on September 6, 2019, and they couldn't have been more in love (the since archived posts are available via The Blast).
"Our hearts are SO full of love and joy! Our healthy baby boy was born this morning," Christina wrote of her little bundle of joy, who was born via C-section in an Orange County, California hospital. In another since-deleted post, Christina talked about her decision to deliver Hudson via C-section, sharing that since her emergency C-section with son Brayden, she was nervous to go through the process again.
"The whole experience and recovery was really hard on me physically and emotionally. I really don't feel comfortable trying to go down that route again," Christina wrote of Brayden's birth. "Bray was 8lbs 13oz — after pushing for hours and hours — he was just stuck and his heart rate was dropping. Based on ultrasound measurements, we think this is going to be another big boy, so this is the direction we've decided to take."
Christina and Tarek co-parented their kids through the pandemic
Even parents on the most communicative of terms struggled with the onset of COVID-19, but despite their own personal drama, Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall put up a unified, communication-based front for their kids. Speaking to People, Christina shared that she and Tarek had co-parenting down to a science by the time the pandemic began. Even though social distancing made things difficult, all parties involved (including Tarek's new partner, Heather Rae Young of "Selling Sunset") knew what needed to be done to prioritize the kids' well-being.
"Tarek and I split four years ago. That's a long time. When there are tough times like these, all of a sudden we're totally a unified front and talk and email multiple times a day," Christina shared. Her then-husband Ant Anstead chimed in, saying that the focus for all of them was what most benefits the children. "It's good we're on the same page — otherwise it would be a mess," Ant said.
Christina and Ant's separation sparked a nasty custody battle
Marriage, a baby, a blended family, a positive influence — all these things point to a happy ending, right? Unfortunately, not always. After tying the knot in December 2018, Christina Hall and Ant Anstead announced in September 2020 that they were calling it quits. In a since-deleted post on Instagram (provided by House Beautiful), Christina wrote of the decision, "Ant and I have made the difficult decision to separate. We are grateful for each other and as always, our children will remain our priority."
It was a blow to fans of the HGTV star, who was about to undergo her second divorce and custody battle. As noted by In Touch Weekly, Christina initially filed to receive shared legal and physical custody of her son Hudson, who was just 14 months old when she and Ant decided to go separate ways. Of the divorce itself, Christina cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason, indicating in legal documents that both parties would also be paying their own legal fees.
Christina and Tarek's new wife haven't always seen eye to eye
While Christina Hall and Tarek El Moussa appeared to put their differences aside and focus on the well-being of their kids, Taylor and Brayden, things haven't always been easy. Tarek married "Selling Sunset" star Heather Rae Young in October 2021 (via People), and the "bonus mom" to the two kids has become an active presence in their lives. However, things haven't always been peachy between Heather and Christina.
As noted by Entertainment Tonight, Heather and Christina got into a spat while watching a kids' soccer game. While it's unclear what the two women were arguing about, photos published by the Daily Mail showed that it was a less than cordial interaction. Amid the blow-up, the co-parents released a statement to ET, writing, "A personal matter was discussed and has since been resolved. We are focused on co-parenting as a team moving forward."
While they provided a united front, a source told ET that the HGTV star and the "Selling Sunset" leading lady "haven't been getting along." "Heather feels like Christina doesn't treat her respectfully," the source told ET of the situation. "Tarek wants to protect Heather from all of it and thinks the way Christina has acted toward her is unacceptable."
Christina's third husband, Joshua Hall, has bonded with her kids
After her divorce from Ant Anstead, Christina Hall got back into the dating game and tied the knot with her third husband, Joshua Hall. Of course, having three kids from two different dads is a complex situation to embark on, but as it turns out, Josh became a "doting" stepfather to the three kiddos and bonded with them over time. As noted by Us Weekly in May 2022, Josh gleefully stepped up to the plate, joining the mom of three with her kids during outings. He was also there for Christina while navigating co-parenting with Ant (spoiler alert, things don't stay peachy between the exes for long).
"[Hudson is] still young, so they just want to make sure he has as normal of an upbringing as possible," an insider told Us Weekly of Christina and Ant's early co-parenting dynamic, as they had joint custody of the little one at the time. "They put Hudson first and put any tension that's between them to the side," the insider continued.
For his part, Ant insisted in January 2022 that he was doing his best to stay positive, explaining to Us Weekly that he was "lucky" to have such a "hands-on" role in Hudson's life. "I'm responsible for my portion," he said. "If you make a decision that puts the children first, it's probably the right decision. I'm a firm believer in being responsible for my portion."
Ant Anstead filed an emergency order in hopes of getting full custody of Hudson
The initial positivity between Ant Anstead and Christina Hall in the wake of their split didn't last long. As noted by People, Ant filed an emergency petition to the court in hopes of acquiring full custody of little Hudson. An Orange County judge denied the request, as he said Ant "failed to prove there were critical circumstances concerning the child." He was also said to have not given Hall proper notice of his legal intentions.
The filing, which was obtained by People, claimed that the "Flip or Flop" star had not spent adequate time with Hudson and that Ant was serving as the "primary parent." He further claimed that the HGTV star had only seen Hudson an "average of nine full days each month over the last 20 months and an average of seven full days per month in 2022." In his request, Ant further expressed his desire for "regular" custody of Hudson, requiring Christina to adhere to an "alternating weekend" custody agreement.
Christina was horrified by her ex's desire to cut her out of Hudson's life
To say that Christina Hall was taken aback by Ant Anstead's emergency custody filing is an understatement. The HGTV star quickly filed a response to Ant's original legal request, a copy of which was obtained by People. Christina expressed how "shocked" she was by the "false allegations" that Ant presented in his case, further saying she was devastated to learn that her ex believed he was "failing to protect" Hudson by allowing Christina to be a part of his life.
"Mr. Anstead has now taken the position that he is the de facto primary parent of our son, which is not accurate," Christina countered in her court documents. "Anstead does not count any day wherein we exchange our son as a custodial day for me. He also counts days where I made an accommodation or gave a right of first refusal to him as his day."
The "Flip or Flop" star went on to say that Ant's claims surrounding her schedule were simply an "attempt to mislead the court," and further argued that her flexibility when it came to custodial time was simply her being "a supportive co-parent." She also provided a full and "accurate" schedule of her time spent with Hudson in an attempt to counter Ant's claims. The custody battle between the exes is ongoing as of publication.
Christina is happy for Tarek and Heather Rae as they expect a new baby
Any fan of "Selling Sunset" knows just how much Heather Rae El Moussa gushes about her husband, Tarek El Moussa. The star has additionally been candid about their desire to have a baby of their own, sharing her IVF journey on social media. But the universe had other plans, and Heather got pregnant naturally with the couple's first child, announcing the happy news on Instagram in July of 2022.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I think my heart would be so full from being a step mommy ... and now I get to be a mommy, myself," she wrote. "One minute you go from wondering when 'the one' will come into your life to meeting the love of your life, helping raise two incredible kids, getting married, envisioning having a baby, to being [pregnant]."
So how does Christina Hall feel about her ex-husband's news, especially given that her two kids with Tarek are expecting a new baby sibling? A source told Entertainment Tonight that the HGTV star is "happy" for Tarek and Heather, explaining, "As long as Tarek and her are peacefully co-parenting, she is content."
