Celebs Who Have Really Successful Siblings
In the world of celebrities, sometimes it seems as if these beautiful and talented human beings came from another planet as we rarely hear about their personal family life. Although we don't hear about them, most celebrities do in fact have siblings, whether they choose to speak about them or not.
Then there are some celebrity siblings that are so successful that they give their famed brothers or sisters a real run for their money. And just because they aren't household names doesn't mean that they don't live accomplished professional lives. For instance, did you know a certain mega-celebrity has a sibling who is the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Republic of Tanzania? Or that another Hollywood girl-next-door has a sister who is a makeup artist to the stars? Read on to hear more about the successful lives of celebrity siblings.
Sandra Bullock and Gesine Bullock-Prado
Award-winning Sandra Bullock may be America's sweetheart, but she has a sibling whose successful career is even sweeter. While Bullock is known for her roles in Miss Congeniality, The Blind Side, and Gravity, her sister Gesine Bullock-Prado is known for her role in the kitchen as a pastry chef.
Not only does she bake delicious treats, but she has also written five books about confections, as well as excerpts about her life. And in case Bullock-Prado doesn't sound accomplished enough already, the chef and author is also a regular contributor for Better Homes & Gardens and Craftsy. If you're wondering whether Bullock reads her sister's books, in a live interview with Entertainment Tonight during the release of Bullock-Prado's book Confections of A Closet Master Baker, Bullock said, "I was bawling and laughing the entire time I read it." It's clear that these two support one another in a way that only siblings can.
Although Bullock is the owner of Austin's cozy deli, Walton's Fancy and Staple, Bullock-Prado shut down any rumors of the two of them creating a cookbook together. In an interview with Texas Monthly, Bullock-Prado said, "Our lives our so different. She has her restaurants, and I can't imagine doing that. We're so busy that when we're finally together, we just want to spend time together. We're not going to work together. We're just going to play together." Spoken like a true sister!
Mary-Kate, Ashley, and Elizabeth Olsen
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are arguably the most famous twins of their time. Known for their role as Michelle Tanner on Full House and for their Mary-Kate and Ashley movie franchise, they earned tons of recognition at an early age. But not many people know that their younger sister, Elizabeth, is an actress making her way up the Hollywood ranks. She's starred in movies like Martha Marcy May Marlene, Captain America: Civil War, and, most recently, Wind River.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, she mentioned the one question she gets tired of hearing: what it was like growing up in the Olsen household. "They were always working. It wasn't like they weren't working and then they were," she said. "Also, I've been doing this for five or six years now — are we really still talking about [my sisters]?"
But having ultra-prominent sisters comes with some perks. In an interview with Modern Luxury, Elizabeth Olsen said that her sisters gave tips about living in the spotlight and learning to cope with the media. "They're very tight-lipped — notoriously so — and I was not caring what I was saying [in interviews] because I'd assumed no one would read it," she shared. "They'd say, 'You know, even if you don't think anyone's going to read this article, someone might pull the quote later for [something else].' It's all part of how you hope someone interprets you, and how they frame who you are and the work you do."
Nicole and Antonia Kidman
Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman is no stranger to the spotlight, but unbelievably, neither is her sister Antonia. While Kidman is big in America, Antonia Kidman is known in their home country of Australia as a famous TV personality on the show From Here To Maternity, and is also the author of The Simple Things: Creating an Organised Home, a Happy Family and A Life Worth Living.
Antonia Kidman realized that life for her and her family was getting to be too much in their home country and decided to move to Singapore to escape the media. She spoke about the decision on the No Filter podcast. She said, "There are no gossip magazines in Singapore, so there's none of that, you're totally out of the loop." And what about when sister Nicole visits? Antonia said, "Nicole stayed there and nobody blinked an eye, nobody recognized her for the three or four days she was there."
You'd find it hard to believe that Kidman didn't consider herself the beauty of the family growing up, either, because Antonia was gorgeous as the girls were growing up. In an interview with interview with People, Kidman said that sister Antonia "has brown skin and beautiful brown hair, and I was always sort of the one who needed to have a personality. We'd walk down the street and people would go, 'Oh, Nicole, isn't your sister gorgeous?'" Between the two of them, I'd say the both have beauty and brains.
Robert and Lizzy Pattinson
Robert Pattinson, who plays the vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen from the Twilight series, has a sibling that's also seriously talented. His sister, Lizzy Pattinson is a singer who's not only performed with bands like Aurora and the German band Milk & Sugar, but also recorded background vocals in a song for the movie that put her brother in the spotlight!
And if you think Lizzy Pattinson stopped her music career there, think again. In 2014, she was on the X Factor U.K., competing to earn the winning title. In an interview with E! News, her brother spoke about how proud he was of his sister for her efforts on the show. "I'm so excited about it! She's going quite far already," he said. "I'm just amazed that she's doing it. It takes so much balls."
The pride Pattinson feels for his sister goes both ways, too. In an interview with Absolute Radio, sister Lizzy Pattinson talked about how much of a role model her brother is to her. "Rob's not really scared of anything. He's such a ballsy person... I can learn a lot from him, because he's not afraid of anything and he's very confident in himself... he inspires me quite a lot, actually." Singing, acting, and siblings who get along? This family has some ridiculously good genes.
Jude and Natasha Law
Swoon-worthy actor Jude Law is an actor who has amassed several accolades, including two Academy Awards and three Golden Globes. Needless to say, he's beyond successful in his acting career! But his sister, Natasha Law, has seen success of a different kind — in art. Natasha Law is a painter who is best known for her stunning portraits of women's figures and works with prominent clients like Vogue, Max Mara, and Tiffany & Co. It seems that the Law family has quite an artistic side!
Though both the Law siblings clearly have made names for themselves, they apparently couldn't be more different when it comes to their personalities. According to Natasha Law, she and Jude are "like chalk and cheese," and emphasizes that her brother is much more than just a pretty face. She told Telegraph, "I suppose it must affect a person's personality, being so beautiful and knowing that everybody thinks you're so cute. But even though he may look that way, he's a really down-to-earth guy. He's very much a one-woman man, too, and devoted to his family."
Brad and Doug Pitt
When your sibling is a world-famous actor, it might be hard to consider yourself successful. But Brad Pitt's brother Doug has shattered that assumption. He's an accomplished businessman, was named the first Goodwill Ambassador for the United Republic of Tanzania, and raised $750,000 for areas that need clean water by hiking up Mount Kilimanjaro — and became the first American in recorded history to descend by mountain bike!
In an interview with St. Louis Magazine, he explained how he deals with people asking about his famous sibling. "I couldn't be more proud of him. I think the monotony of it is, I've answered the same questions now for 25 years," he said. "I understand their excitement, but if you were asked every week for 25 years the same question, your eyes would kind of glaze over."
Back in 2012, Doug Pitt partnered with Virgin Mobile Australia to create a hilarious video about his life, poking fun at himself for being an average Joe compared to his brother. Nova FM Radio asked him if he got permission from his brother to do the endorsement. "Out of respect, yes, I did" he said. "He's been in this arena for 25 years, and I've never stepped in it. That was his gig and I chose a different path." Ultimately, Doug decided to go for it, adding yet another incredible thing onto his list of accomplishments.
Rachel and Kayleen McAdams
Rachel McAdams is undoubtedly a talented, beautiful actress, but did you know that her sister, Kayleen, is the reason her makeup always looks so good? That's because Kayleen McAdams is a successful celebrity makeup artist, making clients like her sister, Sofia Vergara, and Diane Kruger red carpet-ready. Her passion for makeup started when visiting sister Rachel on set for the movie that put her on the map, The Notebook, and seeing the extraordinary work of the makeup artists on set.
Though the pair are both successful in their own right, they still lean on each other for support, especially given their sometimes chaotic lifestyle. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (via the Belfast Telegraph), McAdams said, "Kayleen has a very calming effect on me. Spending two hours with her beforehand sets me for the night." Kayleen responded to her sister, saying "I like to know I can help calm you down before you go out there, because there's a lot coming at you." It's nice to see that these two accomplished sisters have each other's backs, always.
Jennifer and Lynda Lopez
We all know her as Jenny from the block, but famed singer Jennifer Lopez has someone else that grew up right beside her during her childhood in the Bronx: her sister, Lynda Lopez. The New York native isn't living in her sister's shadow, though — she's an award-winning journalist and anchor for ABC Radio , and her previous jobs included working for Fox, VH1, and CBS Radio.
Lynda and Jennifer Lopez certainly share a special bond. Aside from understanding how life can be in the spotlight, the two remain very close in a way that only siblings can. In an interview with Arianna Huffington for HuffPost Live, Lopez said, "Me and Lynda, it's funny. I'm the middle sister, we have an older sister, Leslie, Lynda's the baby, and I don't know, we've always kind of been very close... And I think when I moved out to L.A., one of the things I missed most was my friendship with my sisters, especially Lynda... we've just always kind of been best friends that way."
The feeling is certainly mutual. Lynda added, "I always felt like Jennifer was, despite the fact that we're less than two years apart, was sort of a grown up, an adult, and someone who was not just close to, but was my friend... and somebody I could lean on and take care of me. I always felt like I had someone to take care of me."
Rupert and James Grint
He may not be a wizard, but he can definitely create some magic on the racetrack! Rupert Grint, the actor who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, has a younger brother James who is a professional racecar driver. James, who signed with Albatec, a leading UK Rallycross motorsport team, spoke about his brother in an interview with the Daily Mail.
"I've never looked at Rupert's success and thought, 'That could have been me.' I could never have been an actor," he said. "By the time Rupert's career was taking off, I'd already made up my mind that I wanted to be a racing driver. If anything, Rupert's success spurred me on to excel in my own field." James continued, "At first everyone knew me as Rupert Grint's brother. Then I had to carve out an identity for myself, which I did by being good at sports."
In the same interview, Grint talked about growing up with his brother, who now craves a need for speed for a living. "James and I grew up with a love for cars and a love for racing. We started with scooters, then moved on to go-karts and quad bikes," he said. "James will claim that he always won. I remember it differently. He has a daredevil instinct that I lack. He will try pretty much anything, regardless of the physical risk." One famous brother on the movie screen and another on the racetrack — could they get any cooler?
Kate and Oliver Hudson
She might know how to lose a guy in ten days, but there's one guy who would never leave Kate Hudson's side: her brother, Oliver. Chances are, you've actually seen Oliver in movies and TV shows, you just never knew that he had an ultra-famous sibling! He played Adam Rhodes on the show Rules of Engagement and starred in the movie Grown Ups 2, as well as a handful of other notable roles. And apparently, the Hudson siblings can do more than just act. The pair launched a workout apparel line specifically for men on-the-go called FL2, which you can find on Hudson's apparel site, Fabletics.
Oliver Hudson went on the Rachael Ray Show and spoke about what it was like growing up with his sister. "My sister came out of the womb performing, okay, and I was always a very understated, sort of low-key kid. And she was sort of just fabulous, and 'Look at me!' and it bothered me so much," he shared. "I was not a very nice person." Later he went on to say that the two get along great as adults. "Now we're best, best friends." I guess the sibling rivalry dwindled down once they both became hugely successful. In case you're wondering, the two siblings aren't the only success stories in the family. Their mother is actress Goldie Hawn!
