The Reason Meghan Markle Reportedly Holds A Grudge Against Katy Perry
Meghan Markle's wedding dress was admired by many. Countless articles have been devoted to directing devoted fans how they can copy the understated gown designed for the duchess by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.
But not everyone was a fan of the Duchess of Sussex's bridal attire. One high-profile critic? The designer behind Princess Diana's iconic wedding dress, David Emanuel. To be fair, he won't even utter Meghan's name; that's how big of a non-fan of the royal he is. And Emanuel is not alone, with designer Emilia Wickstead also hopping on board the train of detractors who aren't in love with how the mom of two was styled the day she said "I do" to Prince Harry.
"If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose," Wickstead told Insider after the royal wedding in 2018.
Meanwhile, an A-list celebrity also notably snarked about Meghan's wedding dress. And it seems the California native still can't get over the comment years later. What makes this grudge especially inconvenient is that the singer who said something not-so-nice about the Duchess of Sussex's gown lives in the same neighborhood as the newly-relocated royals.
Katy Perry felt Meghan Markle's wedding dress was ill-fitting
Talking to Entertainment Tonight hot off the heels of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 2018 wedding, Katy Perry had a strong opinion about the Givenchy dress the royal wore down the aisle at Windsor Castle.
"I would have done one more fitting," the "American Idol" alum said at the time, adding, "I'm never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you."
Rubbing salt into the wound of her less-than-flattering feedback for the Duchess of Sussex was that Perry went on to share that she preferred the lace Alexander McQueen wedding dress worn by the reported rival of the royal. "Kate, Kate, Kate won, Kate won!" the singer proclaimed.
Talk about awkward, because now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in the same town as Perry and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom (via Express). Indeed, while Harry and Meghan reside in a $14 million mansion with their kids, Archie and Lilibet, Perry and Bloom also own a home in Montecito that they purchased in 2020 for around the same jaw-dropping price.
Meghan Markle is reportedly still mad about Katy Perry's diss
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom reportedly love the town where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex settled as much as the royals do. "They agree that raising their little girl in Montecito will be amazing," a source told People about the couple's daughter, Daisy, in 2020. "They were looking for a house for a while before they put in an offer. They are very excited about their new house. It comes with a lot of history and a gorgeous ocean view."
And hey, now the singer and actor can also count members of the royal family as neighbors. Except, remember the snide comment Perry made about Meghan Markle's wedding dress back in 2018?
Well, according to Express, the former "Suits" star is so not over the remark, with a source telling the outlet that while Bloom plays neighborhood watch for the royals and alerts them to any potential threats he sees, "Meghan is keenly aware of a comment that Katy Perry made in 2018 about her wedding dress and is notorious for holding a grudge."
As such, another source wryly added that the two moms won't be carpooling anytime soon.
