Celebrity Gender Reveals You'll Wish You Thought Of First
Announcing a pregnancy is such an exciting thing for any couple and recently the creativity level for revealing what gender your child will be has gone up tremendously. Revealing your baby's gender no longer means taking a photo of a sonogram or — gasp — simply telling people your baby's sex. There are endless ways to make a gender reveal fun, inclusive, and sometimes over-the-top.
The idea isn't foreign to celebrities, either, and they usually have some unique ways to announce their child's gender that's personally meaningful or is just something fun that they want to share with their closest friends, family, and of course, their fans. The easiest way to share the news is social media. Check out the amazing celebrity gender reveals below that will give inspiration to any expecting parents, whether you're in Hollywood or not.
Dave and Odette Annable
Brothers and Sisters actor Dave Annable met and married his wife, actress Odette Annable (then Odette Yustman) back in 2010. Five years later, on Mother's Day, the couple announced some amazing news. In an Instagram post, Odette Annable shared, "It's a very special Mother's Day indeed. Wishing all the moms out there a very happy Mother's Day. This year... I'm SO happy to announce that I get to join the party!"
When it came time to announce their baby's gender, it was only natural that the pair do something fun to post to social media for fans, friends, and family to see. In an Instagram video shared by Dave Annable, the couple seems to be joined by the people closest to them to find out what gender their baby will be. Both Annable and his wife are both holding large black balloons and the crowd counts down until the couple pop their own balloon to reveal either pink or blue confetti.
Annable wrote, "Here it is...@odetteannable and I are very proud parents to be of our little...#happyfathersday to everyone. One of the most special moments of our life. I was so confused for a second. Thought I saw both colors of confetti. Nope." Hilariously in the video, he seems unsure of what color the confetti was, until you hear people in the crowd congratulating him, telling him that they're having a girl!
Danielle and Kevin Jonas
Kevin Jonas might rule the pop music realm, but his wife Danielle clearly rules social media! Their gender reveal is hilarious and adorable, but before they announced what the sex of their second child was, Jonas went on air with Nigel Barker's Gentleman's Code (via siriusxm.com) to chat about waiting to find out what him and his wife would be having."I've always just wanted two kids that were both girls, and my wife was like, 'Why?' I'm like, 'Because I've been around boys so much my entire life, that I want to be surrounded by girls,'" he said. So Jonas made it clear that of course he wants a healthy and happy baby, but his heart is set on having a girl.
His wife took to Instagram to have fans guess the gender, but with a silly spin. Jonas posted a picture of two jars of M&M's candies — one filled with peanut M&M's and the other plain — with labels that read "Nuts" and "No Nuts" for fans to guess their choice. So witty!
A few days later, Jonas posted yet again, this time actually revealing the gender. The Instagram photo shows a collage of their firstborn, Alena Rose happily holding a large pink heart balloon with the words "Baby girl" written in big pink letters. It looks like Kevin Jonas' wish came true!
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott
Actress Tori Spelling and her husband actor Dean McDermott are two well-known celebrities who have been very successful in their career, but more importantly they're successful when it comes to their family life, too. The couple already had four children — two boys and two girls — when Spelling found out that she was pregnant with her fifth child, and she was shocked. "It was a total surprise," Spelling told People Magazine. "But we always wanted a big family. I'm really excited."
For their gender reveal, Spelling and McDermott decided to find out alongside all of their children, with a Christmas tree decorated in either pink or blue to signify what they were having. E! News earned exclusive access to the party, and was able to take photos and video of the family walking in to see the surprise gender. The Christmas tree, decorated in beautiful blue, signified that Spelling was going to welcome another baby boy to the family!
"With Liam and Stella we found out at the doctor's office. Hattie and Finn, we didn't find out, we didn't know until they were born," Spelling told E! News. "So this is the first reveal. We really wanted to do it with the kids because they were so excited, and we wanted to do it as a family!" What an inventive and adorable way to ring in the holiday season.
Chris and Karly Kirkpatrick
We all know him as one-fifth of the band 'N Sync, but at home it looks like Chris Kirkpatrick will only be going by the name "dad." He and his wife Karly told People Magazine back in May 2017 that they were expecting their first child together. "Karly and I are over the moon excited that we are welcoming a new addition to the family," said Kirkpatrick. "We are both looking forward to becoming parents, and learning how much fun having a child will be."
And the couple knows a thing or two about fun, given the way they revealed their baby's gender. Kirkpatrick posted a photo on Twitter that revealed how they found out whether they were having a boy or a girl. The pair shot a crossbow at a sign holding three black balloons. In the photo you see the first balloon was successfully popped, and blue paint is splattered everywhere, meaning that the couple will be having a baby boy. Kirkpatrick wrote in his post, "@IamCKirkpatrick + @MagicKar + crossbow = gender reveal #babyboyboyboy!" I think this is one of the most imaginative gender reveals yet!
Lauren Conrad and William Tell
The Hills alum Lauren Conrad married former Something Corporate guitarist William Tell in September 2014 and, almost exactly two years later, she revealed the couple was celebrating in another way — they were expecting their first child together. "I see our lives changing," Conrad told People Magazine, adding, "I think you don't know until you're there. I have very nice friends who are attempting to prepare me, but everybody does it differently."
Just like every couple does parenting differently, every couple does gender reveals differently, too! Conrad opted for a low-key and casual reveal, but incorporated a piece of family history into her announcement. On Conrad's Instagram, she posted a photo of a drawing of a little baby boy in a little blue car, with the words "It's a guy" next to it.
Conrad wrote, "I found this adorable birth announcement while helping my Grandma move and I thought it was the perfect way to share that William and I are expecting a baby boy." I love that she went with a reveal that was classic and traditional, but still found a perfect way to share it with her fans.
Christian and Kayla Colon
Christian Colón — a professional baseball player who has played in Major League Baseball for teams such as the Kansas City Royals and the Miami Marlins — and his wife Kayla found out that they were expecting their first child. So, like any famous baseball player would do, Colón had their baby's gender revealed on the baseball field, knocking it right out of the park.
Colón posted a video on his Twitter account that documented the entire reveal. His wife, in a beautiful, flowing white dress, held a baseball that held either pink or blue powder to signify the baby's gender. She pitched the ball to Colón, who swung and hit the ball to reveal an explosion of the color pink. In a caption, he wrote, "Mia Rose, I can't wait to hold you in my arms! Daddy's little princess!!!" Not only did they reveal the baby's gender, but the name as well — that's a home run in my book.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Although they are no longer married, singers Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have three beautiful sons together — their oldest, Kingston, their middle, Zuma, and their youngest, Apollo. With three boys on her hands, this mom must have some serious skills! It seems like when she was pregnant with her third, she might have actually been ready for a girl.
When she was pregnant and found out the baby's gender, she told her fans in the cutest way possible. An Instagram post she uploaded depicts a photo of Stefani with a gorgeous looking royal crown on her head with the caption, "I was ready to hand over the crown. but I guess I am still queen of the house. #itsaboy #surroundedbyboys."
But don't think that this rocker-chick lets her sons do whatever they want. In an interview with People, Stefani said, "I was in a band and free my whole life, so I always thought I would be really free with [my kids] and do whatever I wanted, like, 'Oh, I'll take them out of school.' But you learn that when they have boundaries is when they feel the safest." A great mom who's creative and cool? The Rossdale boys are lucky!
Nick and Vanessa Lachey
Boy-band heartthrob Nick Lachey married Vanessa Minnillo (now Vanessa Lachey) back in 2011 and have since welcomed three children into the world. But back when they just had their son Camden, Lachey and his wife celebrated their three years of marriage in an unusual way.
In a post on on Lachey's Instagram, he shared a photo of his son running on the beach. But the real focal point is what's written in the sand behind him. Inside of a hand-drawn heart, the words "It's a girl" is written in script. Lachey wrote, "Can't think of a better way to celebrate 3 years of marriage to my beautiful @VanessaLachey than this!"
In an interview on the radio show Sway in the Morning, Lachey talked about fatherhood and how that responsibility changed him. "It changes everything. At least it did for me. Every decision you make, everything you do is in a different perspective now because you have someone you are responsible for," he said. "From top to bottom, everything in my life has changed, but it's all changed for the better."
Erika Christensen and Cole Maness
The only thing in the world that is cuter than a newborn baby is a newborn baby with a furry friend. Animal lovers know that the pairing of a child and an animal — like a dog or a cat — causes an overload of cuteness. Parenthood actress Erika Christensen and cyclist Cole Maness found an adorable way to tell fans that they'd soon be parents. On Christensen's Twitter, she posted a collage of photos featuring herself and her sweet puppy, but what she wrote underneath the photo was the real surprise. "This boy is getting a little sister. A human sister. She'll make her first appearance tomorrow at #Confirmation," Christensen wrote.
It seems that Christensen wanted her fans to be there for her every step of the way, right up until the very end. In June 2016, she took to Twitter once more, saying, "I'm in labor. Right now." Christensen gave birth to a daughter named Shane and I can only imagine just how many photos of her and the puppy there are on Christensen's phone.
Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman
When you're the co-anchor of the ever-popular Today Show, your gender reveal simply has to be shown on air, which is exactly what Savannah Guthrie did when she became pregnant with her second child. Considering Guthrie previously revealed on-air that she got married and was also four months pregnant with her first child, it seemed only natural to do the same for her second.
When it was time to present Guthrie's gender reveal, the show didn't merely reveal the sex — they went all out. They took to the streets to ask fans, interviewed her co-anchors about their guesses, and even brought in a doctor to weigh in on the matter. In the end, the Today Show's cast all gathered round to have Guthrie choose a blue or pink colored milkshake to reveal the baby's gender. Guthrie took both milkshakes, and said, "You know I didn't really want to make a big deal of this or anything about what it was going to be." At the same moment, a plane flew overhead with a sign that read, "It's a boy!" The crowds awaiting outside the show, along with everyone on television watching, learned at the exact same time.
After the shock wore off, her co-anchors congratulated her, then asked "What's his name?" to which Guthrie replied, "I'm not telling! That I'm definitely not telling!" I can't blame her — I think a baby and gender reveal on live television is enough for one person!
