How Kim Kardashian's Style Changed When She Started Dating Pete Davidson
When Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson became red carpet official, many were curious, and even confused about what the seemingly unlikely couple had in common. Kim is known for going to extreme lengths for fashion. Pete Davidson on the other hand has always given major "Saturday Night Live" comedian from Staten Island vibes, mostly because that's exactly what his IMDb description says.
But opposites really do attract, and the pair began unofficially dating in October of 2021, a few months after Kim's split from husband, Kanye West. According to Insider, the couple reportedly met on the set of "Saturday Night Live" where he is a regular cast member and she was the show's host for the evening.
The two were cast in a skit together and when the pair kissed in the scene, sparks flew. When asked about the kiss, Kardashian explained to ET, "It was a stage kiss, but it was still a little zing." A little "zing" was all it took. A few weeks later, the couple was spotted out together two nights in a row in NYC (per Insider).
Kim's marriage to Kanye came with a lot of pressure
For Kim Kardashian, her relationship with Pete Davidson was clearly a welcomed change of pace from the high-profile relationship she shared with ex, Kanye West. On her Hulu reality show "The Kardashians," Kim shared her feelings about Pete with her sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian, saying, "I never knew that you could just be so happy watching a TV series and going to the gym." Kim continues, "I actually don't care if I go out like this and have no makeup on. It is the most refreshing feeling to not feel [like I have to always be perfect]."
Her relationship with West came with a certain expectation of needing to always be photo ready any time she would step out of the house as famously — West, who is a music and fashion mogul, would style his wife frequently (via Glamour UK).
Her relationship with Pete allowed her to rediscover her own style. In an article for BuzzFeed, Kim is quoted as saying "I was always 'The Kardashians' with my sisters, and then I was 'Kimye.' Like, who is Kim K? That is the jump. How do I get there without Kanye?" Through her relationship with Davidson, Kim has been able to reconnect with who she is esthetically.
Kim has been finding more fun in fashion
As of very recently, Kim Kardashian has split with Pete Davidson (via Billboard), but the relationship has shown to have a liberating effect on Kim's style. Kanye West was a dominating force in Kim's life in many ways, but perhaps the most significant was his influence on the creation of her esthetic.
According to Us Weekly, throughout the entirety of Kardashian's relationship with West, the influencer allowed him to reconstruct her style, which ultimately lead to her adopting the rapper's love of odd, eye-catching, and often neutral-colored fashion.
Daily Mail reported that now that West is out of the picture, Kim has been spotted having more fun with her fashion choices, ironically, while dating a comedian. Returning to her love of bright colors, and incorporating things like sneakers and denim, this stunning transformation of Kim Kardashian's style is reflective of the laid-back, no-pressure energy that Pete brought into her life.
