Alison Sweeney Reveals Which Co-Star Helped Her Return To Days Of Our Lives
"Days of Our Lives" viewers have been watching Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) cause trouble in Salem for decades, and they've loved every minute of it. Sami is one of the most popular and polarizing characters on the show. Many fans love to root for her to do well, but also enjoy seeing her sabotage herself and create chaos for those around her and bring some serious drama to the show, per E! News.
Over the years, Sami has been through it all. She's switched paternity test results, battled the fathers of her children for custody, was nearly executed for a crime that she didn't commit, dealt with the death of a child, and had many romantic relationships (via Soap Central). "Days of Our Lives" fans have seen Sami engaged in flings and epic love stories with the likes of Austin Reed (Austin Peck) and Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering). She was married to Lucas Horton (Bryan Datillo), and fell madly in love EJ DiMera (James Scott, Dan Feuerriegel).
Of course, Sami has had many ups and downs in her family life as well, not only with her own children but also with her parents and siblings, per TV Source Magazine.
Sami's relationship with her mother Marlena has been rocky for years
Sami Brady is the daughter of former super couple Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) and Roman Brady (Josh Taylor). Sami was named after Marlena's late twin sister, Samantha, who was also a trouble maker during her time in Salem. Samantha was killed by The Salem Strangler before her namesake was born (via Daily Soap Dish).
At a young age, Sami suffered some major trauma when she thought that her father had died. Later, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) came to town, and for years the residents of Salem — including Marlena and her family — believed that he was Roman. Later, the real Roman returned and he and Marlena got back together. However, Sami was yet again upset when she found out that her mother and John were having an affair, per Soap Central.
When Marlena found out that she was pregnant things went from bad to worse. After Marlena and John welcomed their daughter, Isabella Black, Sami decided that she would sell her half-sister on the black market so that Roman wouldn't have a reminder of her mother's infidelity (via Soaps in Depth). Eventually, Marlena and Roman split for good and her mother went on to marry John. Over the years, Sami has repaired a lot of the damage between her and her family members. However, she still pushes buttons whenever she's in town.
Thankfully, Alison Sweeney and her on-screen mother Deidre Hall don't seem to have any bad blood between them.
Alison Sweeney reveals Deidre Hall helped her get ready to return to Days of Our Lives
In 2014, "Days of Our Lives" fans were stunned when Alison Sweeney announced that she was leaving the show, and her character Sami Brady, behind. Sweeney revealed that she wanted to spend more time with her children and work on some other projects following her departure from the NBC soap opera (via TVLine). However, Sweeney holds a very special place in her heart for the sudser and has returned to reprise the role of Sami on multiple occasions since her exit.
Sweeney's most recent return in June 2022 came at a time when there was a lot of drama going down in Salem. Sami hadn't been seen on the canvas for about six months when she finally came home for a visit, but she was prepared and ready for work thanks to her co-star and her on-screen mother Deidre Hall. Sweeney even gave the veteran soap actress a sweet shout out via social media for helping her prepare to tackle the role of Sami yet again (via Soaps).
"Thanks, Deidre Hall, for helping me [get] ready for my return to Salem," she wrote on Instagram in the caption of a photo of herself and Hall together. "Love how we all help each other out on set," she added.
It seems that Hall may have been just as happy as fans were to see Sweeney back on "Days of Our Lives" again.
