How Sarah Ended Up With Kristen's Baby On Days Of Our Lives
"Days of Our Lives" fans got a huge shock when they watched a surprising time jump storyline take place. It all started when Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) was attacked by Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) when she was brainwashed to believe that she was Princess Gina. Jennifer was pushed from a balcony and badly injured, per Soaps, and fell into a coma which lasted for an entire year. During that time, "Days of Our Lives" viewers were transported a year into the future until Jennifer woke up (via Soaps in Depth). As Jennifer found out about all of the drama that occurred during her coma, fans were also clued into new storylines including Adrienne Kiriakis' death, Will Horton's incarceration, Jordan Ridgeway's murder, Haley Chen's passing, and much more (via Nine).
One of the most shocking storylines that the time jump brought viewers was the drama surrounding Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) and Brady Black's (Eric Martsolf) daughter Rachel, and Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Eric Brady's (Greg Vaughan) baby girl MacKenzie or "Mickey" for short.
The entire situation led to some of the most heartbreaking scenes in the NBC soap opera's history.
Sarah Horton and Kristen DiMera were revealed to be pregnant in 2019
"Days of Our Lives" fans may remember back in 2019 when Sarah Horton found out that she was pregnant with Eric Brady's child. The two had been in a romantic relationship, but their romance was halted when the love of Eric's life, Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker), returned to Salem after being presumed dead (via Soap Dirt). Sarah stepped back so that Eric and Nicole could reunite without drama, but when she discovered that she was pregnant, things got interesting. Sarah's close friend, Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer), found out her secret and pretended to be the baby's father.
Sarah and Xander grew closer throughout the pregnancy and eventually things turned romantic. After the time jump, "Days of Our Lives" fans watched the couple happily raise Mickey (via Soaps in Depth).
Meanwhile, Brady Black and Kristen DiMera's romance has been rocky through the years. However, when they found out that they were expecting a child together they were thrilled. Following the time jump, viewers soon found out that Brady and Kristen's daughter, Rachel, had died shortly after birth and that Kristen had acted out violently in her grief, which led to Haley Chen's death. Kristen then went on the run and left Salem behind in her heartbreak (via Celebrating The Soaps).
However, things were not what they seemed to be. The two babies were actually switched at birth as a part of a twisted plot by the Kiriakis family.
Victor and Xander orchestrated the shocking baby swap
"Days of Our Lives" viewers have seen plenty of baby swaps over the years. However, the most recent came in 2019 when Kristen DiMera's baby, Rachel Black, and Sarah Horton's daughter, Mickey, were swapped shortly after their births — this all happened during the time jump. Fans eventually saw how everything played out when Sarah went into labor and was heading to the hospital with Adrienne Kiriakis (Judi Evans). The two women got into a car crash and Adrienne was killed, per Soaps.
Xander then delivered Sarah's baby on the side of the road before they were taken to the hospital. At the hospital, little Mickey passed away from injuries sustained inside the womb during the crash (via Soaps in Depth).
At the scene of the crash, it appeared that Sarah's Maggie Horton (Suzanne Rogers) had caused the crash while drinking and driving. Maggie's husband Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) plotted with Xander to swap the babies. Brady and Kristen were later told that their daughter had died.
Meanwhile, Kristen gave birth to her daughter at the hospital, and after Mickey's death, Xander and Victor plotted for the babies to be swapped. Eventually, the baby swap was revealed and Sarah had to heartbreakingly say goodbye to the baby she believed to be her daughter, per The TV Watercooler. She also had to come to terms with the death of her own child.
The storyline was tragic and eventually brought Sarah and Xander closer together. The two now honor Mickey's memory together.
