What Is Kelly Hyland From Dance Moms Doing Now?
It's been over two years since the Lifetime show "Dance Moms" ended, but people are still just as obsessed with the cast. The real-life mother-daughter duos stole everyone's hearts, no matter where they ended on the pyramid. Out of all the moms, there was one that was, well, a little louder than the rest. If you're wondering where Kelly Hyland ended up after her daughters stopped dancing, you're going to be a bit surprised.
There are a whopping eight seasons of the show "Dance Moms," but real fans will remember that Hyland left after just four. According to Dance Moms Fandom, the mother of Paige and Brooke Hyland got into a physical altercation with Abby Lee Miller in season four. Hyland was asked to leave the show and she and her two daughters never looked back. The three Hylands never appeared on the show again.
Where is Hyland now, you ask? You will be absolutely shocked to know that she didn't exactly give up on her "Dance Moms" career. Here's everything you need to know about where the mom is now.
Kelly Hyland has a podcast with her 'Dance Moms' cast
If you thought that Kelly Hyland was done with "Dance Moms," you can think again. Despite being kicked off the show, she apparently stayed pretty close with the other moms. Hyland, Jill Vertes, Holly Frazier, and Melissa Gisoni started a podcast together called Because Mom Said So.
The cast gets together once a week to talk about just about every topic under the sun. According to the Apple Podcast website, episodes explore everything from the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial to the price of groceries. Basically, the only common denominator of the show is that these women were all on the show "Dance Moms."
As for Christi Lukasiak, she decided not to join the show. "I realized that I no longer wanted to only be 'Dance Mom Christi' and stuck in my same old patterns of behavior," Lukasiak said on Instagram (via Showbiz Cheatsheet). It just didn't feel 'right' for me. That doesn't mean I will pretend DM doesn't exist or never mention it again. Hell, it's too good not to mock and it was a major part of my life for a very long time. But, I've moved on."
That's not her only podcast, either
Kelly Hyland is apparently really into podcasts, because the "Because Mom Said So" podcast isn't the only one that she stars on. According to her Instagram, Hyland and her "Dance Moms" co-star Christi Lukasiak have created a brand new podcast called, "Back to Barre with Christi and Kelly." The two will get together once a week to rewatch episodes of "Dance Moms" and give their behind-the-scenes recap, all while drinking wine, of course.
That's right. Despite Christi Lukasiak deciding that she didn't want to be on the "Because Mom Said So" podcast because she "moved on" from the show, she is back to talk about the show. The episode premiered on June 6, and apparently, the two have big plans. Lukasiak said on her Instagram stories that the two decided to do the podcast just two weeks before hitting publish on their first episode.
Kelly sued Abby Lee Miller on behalf of her daughter Paige
The podcast isn't the only way that the "Dance Moms" star was tied to the show after her last episode. According to Us Weekly, the family filed a lawsuit in 2014 against Abby Lee Miller alleging emotional distress on the behalf of Paige Hyland. Kelly was arrested for slapping Miller at the time after the "Dance Moms" teacher allegedly tried to bite her (via The Hollywood Reporter). The lawsuit was dismissed a year later.
While Kelly isn't tired directly to the show anymore, she clearly hasn't stopped referencing it even today. Other than her "Back to the Barre" podcast, the 51-year-old still posts throwback photos of the girls and other moms on the show. It's clear that the friendships made on the show, besides Abbey Lee Miller, are strong. Because, you know, not every cast of a show has a podcast together years after the show has ended.
There's rumors that she will write a book
If you haven't quite caught on yet, Kelly Hyland is not ready to give up her "Dance Moms" status, despite not appearing in the last four seasons of the show. According to Us Weekly, Hyland has teased that she will someday be "writing a book about her experience at the studio." At the time of publication, there are no official plans for that book and Hyland has not announced a book on her social media.
Of course, it's quite possible that this tell-all style book won't be needed now that there is a tell-all style podcast with her "Dance Moms" co-host Christi Lukasiak. At the time of publication, only one episode of "Back to the Barre" podcast is out, but the two are heard sharing inside details on the episodes. That's all the more reason to tune into the show.
Kelly actually has three kids
Other than juggling podcasts, Kelly Hyland is of course a mom. It turns out that she has one child that wasn't on the show though. While you've likely seen her daughters Paige and Brooke on the show, the two actually have a brother as well. According to Worthy Celebs, his name is Josh Hyland and he keeps it pretty low-key. That doesn't stop his mom from posting him on social media though.
Both Paige and Brooke have graduated college, so it makes sense that the mom would want to try her hand at a new career with them out of the house. Between three kids, two new podcasts, and the possibility of writing a book, this "Dance Moms" star sure has been keeping busy.
