We Might Have Gotten A Sneak Peek At Lilibet Diana's First Birthday Cake
June 4, 2022, marked Lilibet Diana's one-year reign as one of the newest and cutest royal babies, and the daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just celebrated her first birthday in style. Though Lilibet Diana shared her first birthday with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Weekend, the infant reportedly still had a "lovely," "relaxed and casual" birthday party at her parents' U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage (per The Sun). Apparently, no senior royals were in attendance at the intimate event — including Prince Harry's brother and Lilibet's uncle, Prince William, who reportedly declined to attend her first birthday party, per the Daily Beast.
While it was disappointing to many royal fans that Lilibet Diana's birthday wasn't commemorated with pictures of her and Queen Elizabeth II, we may have gotten a snapshot of one aspect of the baby's celebration. Harry and Meghan's wedding-cake baker posted an Instagram photo of an elegant, flower-designed pink cake, captioned only with a white heart emoji. Could it have possibly been for little Lilibet?
Claire Ptak designed the couple's wedding cake, but did she design Lilibet's first birthday cake?
Claire Ptak, who is a pastry chef, has been tapped to bake for members of the royal family prior to her possible creation of Lilibet's birthday cake (per Page Six). The London-based baker and owner of Violet Bakery created one of the most stunning royal wedding cakes for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2018 nuptials. Ptak's spring-themed wedding cake for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was made with "seasonal and organic ingredients," (per a statement from Kensington Palace). There has been no official confirmation that Violet Bakery and Ptak had any dessert-based role in Lilibet Diana's first birthday party, though, from either the baker or from Harry and Meghan's representatives.
On June 5, Ptak simply raised speculation by posting an Instagram picture of a cake with a pink peony design, captioned with a white heart. On June 6, Ptak posted another picture on Instagram of a pastel cake, captioned, "Frilly." The comment section was quickly filled with questions about who the cake was for. "Is this the cake you made for Lili?" one commenter asked. Another commenter wrote, "My guess is Lili's smash cake. So beautiful." While we speculate about whether we've glimpsed behind-the-scenes photos of Lilibet Diana's birthday dessert, we can at least enjoy the sweet photo of the Duke and Duchess' daughter that was shared on social media to celebrate her first birthday (via BBC).
