Days Of Our Lives Relationship Timeline: Sami And Lucas
"Days of Our Lives" viewers have witnessed the soap opera create so many unforgettable super couples over the years. Classic pairings such as Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso), John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves), and Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) have given fans a reason to tune into "DOOL" for decades, per Fame 10.
In addition, younger couples like Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) and Belle Black (Martha Madison), Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Abigail Deveraux (Kate Mansi, Marci Miller), Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal), and Will Horton (Chandler Massey) and Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith, Zach Tinker) have captivated a younger generation of viewers (via Cheat Sheet).
However, one character seems to create fan-favorite pairings no matter who she's romantically involved with. Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) is known for her complicated love life, and it all started when she teamed up with Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo).
Sami and Lucas schemed to break up Austin and Carrie
Sami Brady, the daughter of Roman Brady and Marlena Evans and twin sister to Eric Brady, is not only a legacy character on "Days of Our Lives," but she is also a huge fan favorite. The character grew up in Salem before leaving town for Colorado. She returned as a teenager in the early '90s and fell hard for Austin Reed. However, there was one big problem. Austin was dating her older sister, Carrie Brady (via Soap Central). Around that time, Sami met and befriended Lucas Horton, Austin's younger brother who had a crush on Carrie. They decided to team up and split up the couple so that they could have them for themselves.
Sami suffered some major setbacks during this time and struggled with an eating disorder. Lucas helped her through all of the difficult situations, and the two leaned on each other for comfort. In the process, they got intimate. Sami became pregnant with Lucas' child but used the situation to her advantage. Upon drugging Austin, she made him believe that they had been intimate, and that the baby she carried was his, per Soaps. Her son Will was born, and Austin was as supportive as he could be. However, Carrie later found out that Will was Lucas' son and spilled the beans to everyone (via Soaps in Depth).
Sami and Lucas' first wedding was sabotaged
After "Days of Our Lives" viewers watched Sami Brady's plan to win over Austin Reed fail, the character moved on to a man named Franco Kelly. He was later murdered on the couple's wedding day, and Sami became the prime suspect. She was convicted of murder and even sentenced to execution, per Soaps in Depth. However, Lucas Horton swooped in at the last minute and saved her life by confessing to the murder and making it clear that he had strong feelings for the mother of his child. Sami later met and briefly married Brandon Walker. Once that relationship fell apart, she and Lucas grew close again and eventually announced their engagement.
Lucas' mother Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) wasn't happy about the pair's romance and sabotaged their wedding by making Lucas believe Sami cheated on him (via Soaps). Sami was furious about the situation and was given the chance to seek revenge on her enemies by disguising herself as a man named Stan. Once all was revealed, Lucas was disgusted and turned his back on Sami.
At the time, Carrie Brady and Austin were told by doctors that they shared a genetic defect that would be passed down to future children (via Soap Central). A heartbroken Carrie dumped Austin and pursued a romance with Lucas. They eventually got married, but Carrie and Austin couldn't stay away from each other, which led to the end of the marriage.
Sami & Lucas found short-lived happiness
After Lucas Horton declared the end of his marriage to Carrie Brady, "Days of Our Lives" fans were thrilled to see him turn his attention back on Sami Brady and their son. Lucas decided that he and Sami should live together and co-parent. The pair grew closer and eventually got back together, despite Sami's obvious attraction to EJ DiMera (then James Scott). Things were going well until Sami and Lucas decided to leave for a romantic getaway and got caught in a snowstorm. They found shelter in an abandoned cabin during the blizzard and passed the time with some intimate activities. However, when the roof collapsed on top of Lucas, Sami was forced to seek help. When she made it to the road, EJ found her.
He revealed that he would only help Sami save Lucas if she slept with him, per Soaps. He had been sent to Salem by his father, Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) to impregnate Sami and use the baby's stem cells to save him from his health issues (via Soap Hub). Desperate, Sami agreed, and the pair later saved Lucas' life. Shortly after the incident, she found out that she was pregnant and went on to marry Lucas. However when her twins Johnny and Allie were born it was revealed that they had two different fathers. Johnny was EJ's son while Allie was Lucas' daughter, per Soap Central.
Sami fell for EJ, and Lucas moved on with Chloe
Sami Brady gave birth to her twins during a very dramatic time on "Days of Our Lives." Johnny and Allie were born in the midst of a dangerous feud between the DiMera family and the Brady family. It was suggested that a union between Sami and EJ DiMera would stop the feud so she agreed to leave Lucas Horton and marry EJ, per Soap Central. However, the plan broke the heart of both Lucas and Will, and the teenager decided to take matters into his own hands. On Sami and EJ's wedding day, he shot EJ. However, Lucas took the blame for the crime and ended up behind bars. During their fake marriage, Sami and EJ began to develop real feelings for each other (via Soaps in Depth).
When Lucas was released from prison, it was clear Sami had moved on so he did the same and fell for Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin). The couple left Salem together and Sami was left to focus on romances with EJ and later Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering). When Lucas came back to Salem, he and Sami were on good terms and even supported Will when he came out as gay. Sami eventually reconciled with EJ, and the two remarried. When EJ was killed, Sami took her children and moved to California. Lucas followed.
Lucas plotted to steal Sami from EJ
Once Sami Brady got wind that EJ DiMera may still be alive, she did everything in her power to find him. It was later revealed that EJ was alive thanks to Dr. Rolf's resurrection serum, which brought him and many other "Days of Our Lives" fan favorites back. The couple reunited and left the country to seek medical attention for EJ's ailments (via Soaps in Depth). Sami and Lucas Horton were both back in Salem when their daughter Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) fled to her hometown after winding up pregnant under tragic circumstances. During this time, they reconnected despite her marriage to EJ. The couple ended up having an affair, and EJ was furious when he found out, per Soap Hub.
Lucas revealed that Sami was the love of his life and begged her to give their relationship another shot. Lucas then concocted a plan to kidnap Sami and set up EJ for the crime (via Soaps). He later appeared to come to Sami's rescue after she believed EJ had held her prisoner. Sami turned her back on EJ and left Salem with Lucas.
Only time will tell if the couple will get the real happy ending that many "DOOL" fans believe they deserve. However, it's been fun watching the couple's journey thus far.
