Inside Chris Pratt's Relationship With Katherine Schwarzenegger
Few celebrity couples have gained as loyal a following as Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger. Ever since they were first pictured together, the pair's relationship has been a hot topic of conversation. Pratt is, of course, known for his multiple film and television roles including those in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic Park" (via IMDb). While Schwarzenegger is not directly involved in the entertainment industry (she is an author and lifestyle blogger), her parents are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, so she is well-connected to show business at large.
Now happily married with two daughters, Pratt and Schwarzenegger have come a long way. Schwarzenegger gushed about Pratt to Us Weekly in March 2020 and said, "When you have a partner who can love and support you throughout everything, that's the greatest gift ever. I've always felt incredibly supported by my siblings and my parents, but to have that in a partner and in my husband is another amazing gift to have."
So, where did their relationship begin?
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger met in 2018
In 2017, Chris Pratt announced his divorce from Anna Faris, with whom he shares a son named Jack. About a year later, Pratt met author Katherine Schwarzenegger, and a relationship quickly blossomed.
"We met at church," Pratt said of their fateful meeting (via Extra). "It was a lot of kismet, and a lot of connections, but that was where we met."
During their time dating, Pratt and Schwarzenegger largely kept their relationship private, but they seemed to be seen out on the town everywhere! Rumors of the pair being an item began to swirl in 2018 when they were spotted out picnicking in Santa Barbara (via TMZ). Two months later, they were spotted again riding Bird scooters in Brentwood, seemingly confirming that Pratt and Schwarzenegger were a couple to watch, TMZ reported. After a church date later that year, the couple was seen at a group dinner with Schwarzenegger's brother Patrick, proving that the pair were now serious enough to be meeting the family (via USA Today)!
Official confirmation of the relationship didn't come until December 2018 when Pratt posted a sweet tribute to his girlfriend on Instagram, writing, "Your smile lights up the room. I've cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love, and care."
They got engaged in 2019
On January 14, 2019, Chris Pratt confirmed in an Instagram post that he and Katherine Schwarzenegger were engaged. He wrote, "Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I'm thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!" A few hours later, Schwarzenegger shared an Instagram post of her own, captioning it, "My sweet love. Wouldn't want to live this life with anyone but you."
After father Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that Pratt asked permission before proposing to his daughter, Pratt told Extra, "Well, you know, I think any person who appreciates a tradition and asks a father for his daughter's hand in marriage ... it's inevitably going to be something that makes you a little nervous, but that's sort of the beauty of it, you know?"
As for the wedding planning? Schwarzenegger told ET Online in March 2019 that she, Pratt, and her family were very involved in the details of the upcoming nuptials, and the same month she elaborated, "We get everything done. I mean, we're pretty good with time management, so it works out really well (via US Weekly)."
The couple first moved in together in 2019
A month after getting engaged, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger moved in together in west Los Angeles. Pratt posted a video to Instagram in January 2019 where he said, "It's moving day — boom! — the first of many loads. Check it out. We have high-quality cardboard boxes, the highest quality black plastic garbage bags... like I said, I'm moving all day, and the beauty is I'm doing it in a new truck. Boo-ya!"
A few weeks later, Pratt shared on Instagram an adorable photo collage of Schwarzenegger stretching her arms out wide in their new house, alongside the caption "When you need to see if your stuff will fit in the new place but you forgot the tape measure."
After two years of living together, the couple moved to a new $15.6 million mansion in Pacific Palisades in early 2021 (via Hola!). The new house is 10,000 square feet with five bedrooms, six baths, and an infinity-edge pool and is located in a small gated community.
They made their red carpet debut at the Avengers: Endgame premiere
Other than the occasional post on social media, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have largely been able to keep their relationship out of the spotlight. It wasn't until April 2019 that the pair made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Pratt's film, "Avengers: Endgame."
The premiere for the final film in the "Avengers" series was a big professional moment for Pratt — who plays the role of Star-Lord in the beloved film franchise — so it's no wonder he and Schwarzenegger chose this event to debut as a couple. The pair posed up a storm at the L.A. Convention Center, where Pratt told ET Online (via YouTube) that he told his wife-to-be all of his deep, dark Marvel secrets. "The truth is, I can't believe that I haven't been responsible for more leaks; I've been telling everybody everything!" he joked.
The pair tied the knot in 2019
After just under five months of being engaged, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger married on June 8, 2019, in an intimate ceremony at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. Pratt confirmed the wedding with a stunning photo of the couple and the caption, "Yesterday was the best day of our lives! We became husband and wife in front of God, our families and those we love. It was intimate, moving and emotional. We feel so blessed to begin this new chapter of our lives (via Instagram)" Schwarzenegger posted the same photo and a near-identical caption across her social media accounts, confirming the happy day to her fans.
Gushing about his new bride in August 2019, Pratt told ET, "Aww man, I'm lucky. God is good. I feel really good, really blessed. Everything is great."
Two weeks after the wedding, Pratt and Schwarzenegger flew to Hawaii on their honeymoon and forgot to pack sunscreen! Pratt shared a very sunburned photo on Instagram on June 29 with the caption, "Suns out guns out. I might have got a toouuuch crispy on the honeymoon."
Their daughter, Lyla Maria, was born in 2020
After months of pregnancy rumors, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger confirmed they were expecting their first baby in 2020. In an interview with Extra (via YouTube), Pratt joked about having worse cravings than his pregnant wife, saying, "[The cravings have] been tough. Pickles and ice cream. I never thought I would like them!"
The couple welcomed their daughter, Lyla Maria, in August 2020. Pratt confirmed the birth on Instagram, writing, "We couldn't be happier. Both mom and baby are doing great. We are extremely blessed."
Although careful to keep their daughter's first months private, the new father gave fans the first glimpse of Lyla in December 2020, posting a tribute to Schwarzenegger on her birthday. He captioned the snap, "You have brought so much light into my life. I'm so glad to be home with you and Lyla. You're a great mom, a great step-mom, a great wife, daughter, sister and friend. The world is brighter with you in it. I am one lucky man."
A 2021 Instagram post from Chris Pratt caused controversy
On November 2, 2021, Chris Pratt posted a photo of himself and his wife on Instagram with a caption that stirred quite a bit of controversy (via Romper). He wrote on the social media site, "She's given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes I put in my ear buds to drown it out, but that's love! She helps me with everything. In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That's the trade. Her heart is pure and it belongs to me. My greatest treasure right next to my Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck Rookie card."
Many followers took issue with the post, particularly his mentioning that Schwarzenegger gave him a "healthy" daughter. Pratt's son with actress Anna Faris was born prematurely, suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage, and had to undergo numerous operations. Readers thought the caption was a petty jab at his ex-wife and son. Some followers also thought the caption was objectifying Schwarzenegger, especially comparing her to a baseball card, while others believed it was clear that Pratt was joking.
Despite the backlash, it appeared those close to Pratt found the post to be harmless, with Schwarzenegger replying in the comments, "Oh wow. It's only when I'm eating CEREAL but I love you," and her mother, Maria Shriver, adding, "This is so sweet, now show us how you look at her!!"
The couple's second daughter, Eloise Christina, was born in 2022
Chris Pratt has expressed his interest in having a big family, telling E! News, "I would love to have more [children], as many as the man upstairs provides. We'll do it. I'll probably have to talk to Katherine about that but my plan is, let's go."
In December 2021, People reported that Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger were expecting their second child, though the couple did not confirm the pregnancy until March 2022. At that time, Schwarzenegger posted a video on Instagram with the caption, "Preggo mamas tell me if you, too, can only drink ice cold water."
In May 2022, the couple was seen out in Santa Monica with their daughter, and Schwarzenegger was spotted showing a distinct baby bump (via the Daily Mail). Days later, on May 22, Pratt announced that he and Schwarzenegger welcomed their second child: a daughter named Eloise Christina. Alongside a nameplate image, Pratt wrote, "We are so excited to announce the birth of our second daughter, Eloise Christina Schwarzenegger Pratt. Mama and baby are doing well. We feel beyond blessed and grateful."
