Did Young And The Restless Just Tease Its Next Big Love Triangle?

Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) is one lonely woman on "The Young and the Restless." Her paranoia over the friendship between Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) completely destroyed her longtime relationship with Adam, the father of her son, Connor (Judah Mackey). She then spent quite a few months taking care of her mother out of town and returned with a new friend, Rey Rosales, a man she tried to poison to ruin Sharon's life and set up Adam for murder (via Soaps In Depth).

That friendship with Rey surprised Chelsea, and she was especially shocked when she found herself dreaming of the married man in a romantic way (via Soaps.com). Chelsea tried to put those feelings aside, but a Chelsea/Rey/Sharon triangle was set up for months and that's exactly the way fans thought it would go. Then, "Y&R" chose to let Jordi Vilasuso go and killed off Rey when the character had a heart attack behind the wheel of his car (via Daytime Confidential).

That doesn't mean that Chelsea has to be alone, however. It might just mean that she is about to fall for someone else.

Is Chelsea about to fall for Chance?

When Rey Rosales died, not only did it devastate Chelsea as well as Sharon Rosales and her family, but it also affected his partner on the Genoa City PD, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd). The two had grown to be close friends and it was Chance who delivered the news to Sharon that Rey had that unexpected heart attack (via Soaps.com). Chance even confided in Rey that he has been unable to bond with baby Dominic, the son he and his wife, Abby Newman Chancellor (Melissa Ordway), had via surrogate when he was off on a secret government mission (via Soaps In Depth).

As Soaps.com points out, Chance had no problem bonding with Chelsea's son, Connor, the night Rey died. Rey was all set to take Chelsea and Connor to a hockey game but forgot the tickets at home. As Chelsea and Connor waited at Crimson Lights for Rey to return, Chance sat with them and kept them company, finding an easy rapport with Connor. Chelsea is a woman who likes men who like her son, so could the soap have been setting up the next triangle before anyone ever knew Rey had died?

What this means for Abby

It's only been months since Abby Newman Chancellor got her husband back after believing he had died on that government mission that made him miss the entire time surrogate Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) was carrying Dominic for herself and Chance. He also had a hard time adjusting to life back home as he suffered from PTSD and has been unable to open up to Abby as much as she'd like (via Soaps In Depth).

Abby would be devastated to see Chance becoming closer to another woman and her child rather than her and the child she went to great lengths to bring into the world after learning that she and Chance couldn't have biological children without the help of a surrogate, according to Soaps.com

Could a friendship with Chelsea Lawson be the thing that drives Abby over the edge? Might it also be the thing that helps Chance heal from his trauma when Abby can't give him the comfort he needs? That would be a very soapy situation indeed.
