The Kardashians' Hold On Fashion Has Once Again Been Proven At The Met Gala

The Met Gala is arguably fashion's biggest night and has Hollywood's brightest showing off their creative spin on the theme. Some celebrities understand the assignment and knock it out of the park with their carefully crafted looks and perfectly timed entrances — see Zendaya's magical 2019 Cinderella light-up moment, and reigning queen Rihanna's iconic Vatican-inspired get up the year prior. Other Met Gala looks have left viewers with more questions than answers.

But no one has sparked more conversation at the fashion event than the Kardashian clan. In 2021, Kim Kardashian's infamous all-black Balenciaga look — complete with full mask — was the costume that launched a thousand memes. The fashion icon clearly had a different take on last year's theme, American fashion, and shut down haters by citing the T-shirt dress as the inspiration behind her outfit choice. Kim's not the only Kardashian-Jenner who has struck style gold at the Met Gala in years past. Per Vogue, Kendall Jenner channeled Old Hollywood starlets in a sheer, diamond-encrusted Givenchy gown.

The Kardashians struck again at this year's Met Gala.

Twitter has decided — Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner won the 2022 Met Gala

Last night, reality royalty blessed the 2022 Met Gala red carpet. Per CNN, the event's theme was another examination of American fashion, with a dress code of "Gilded Glamour and White Tie." Once again, Kim Kardashian's look made the most noise on social media the minute she stepped foot onto the scene. In a move that surprised everyone, Kim wore Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe's iconic "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress, reports Variety

According to the entertainment outlet, this marks the first time that the $4.81 million fashion time capsule has been pulled from display at Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. The sheer gravity of this historical moment wasn't lost on Kim. To bring the look to life, the Skims founder told Vogue that she followed an intense workout and diet regimen in order to fit into the dress. She apparently only wore it for a few minutes before switching to a replica, since the dress was so fragile, but by then, Twitter had already lost its collective mind over the daring piece of fashion history. In one tweet, a user complimented her gorgeous look, writing "OMG THIS SO BEAUTIFULLLLL I CAN'T #kimkadashian she's an icon she's the moment."

Kris Jenner's gown also got people talking on Twitter. Viewers agreed that her yellow, one-shoulder gown, and sleek white gloves were peak Jackie Kennedy Onassis. One user tweeted a photo comparison of Kris' look for the night with the Jackie O dress that inspired it. Kris even channeled the former first lady's most recognizable hairstyle.

Khloe, Kendall and Kylie's looks had fans divided

Twitter had a lot to say about the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters' looks at the Met Gala. Kendall played with layers and dimensions by rocking an all-black, two piece gown. People noted that she was sans boyfriend at the event, but her stair-sweeping train was company enough for her.

Over on Twitter, fans complimented her look but felt that something was missing. One user tweeted that her color scheme was too dark, writing "she looks stunning but its similar to her [sic] balanciaga gown she wore i wanted to see her in lighter colors and a corset." In a response to the original tweet, another user commented that a headpiece would've added more to her costume.

Ironically, fans were not feeling Kylie's baseball cap and her white gown ensemble. One viewer pointed out that when paired with Khloe's gold, figure-hugging gown, their vibe was giving off more "wedding" than Met Gala. Hit or miss, the sheer amount of conversations sparked about their outfits alone prove that the Kardashian clan won the night.
