Kim Kardashian Has Just Proven To Be The Met Gala's Marilyn Monroe
The Met Gala is one of the most glamorous events of the year, and the 2022 party drew more than its share of buzz. Naturally, everyone wanted to know who the best-dressed celebs at the Met would be, and one name, in particular, stood out. The Kardashian-Jenner clan has been a Met fashion standout for some time, though not every look of theirs has been a hit. Recall Kim Kardashian's 2019 Thierry Mugler "wet" dress, which got mixed reviews (via W).
This year, fans and fashionistas alike wondered how, or if, the Kardashian daughter would top her previous looks. But she did, and in a way no one could have expected. Kim hit the red carpet wearing one of Marilyn Monroe's iconic outfits — the sheer beaded Jean Louis gold dress she wore to a Democratic National Convention fundraiser in 1962. It was there that Monroe seductively sang "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to John F. Kennedy, raising suspicions that the two were romantically involved. In another nod to the star, Kardashian bleached her hair blond for the occasion.
Kardashian previously told Vogue that before she was allowed to wear the dress, she had to prove that she could fit into a replica. Although the first fitting went off well, the second one wasn't as successful, and there was no chance the gown could be altered. Not wanting to find another dress, Kardashian knew what she had to do.
Kim Kardashian followed a strict diet to fit into the dress
Kim Kardashian may have looked breathtaking and timeless in Marilyn Monroe's famous dress, but being able to wear it was an ordeal. Per Vogue, the dress is a valuable artifact that fetched more than $4 million when it was bought by Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum in 2016 and was delivered to Kardashian by special guards. The gold gown is also so skintight that Monroe herself had to be sewn into it — and she went without underwear, per Reader's Digest.
Speaking to Vogue, the reality star revealed that she had no choice but to trim down in order to fit into the iconic dress. "I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein," Kardashian disclosed.
Thankfully, her "strict" diet and exercise routine paid off, and after of month of sticking to it, the final dress fitting in Orlando went exactly as Kardashian had hoped. "I wanted to cry tears of joy when it went up," she revealed.
