What Are Mackenzie And Maddie Ziegler From Dance Moms Doing Now?
"Dance Moms" premiered on Lifetime over a decade ago, which means the young stars of the former reality series are all grown up now. Fans of the show likely remember the drama that the intense dance instructor Abby Lee Miller was usually in the midst of. But there was also a certain sister duo that kept the audience smiling every week.
Maddie and Mackenzie "Kenzie" Ziegler starred in Seasons 1 through 6 of "Dance Moms" between 2011 and 2016. The show centered around young dancers on an elite dance team, the Abby Lee Dance Company, and the incessant drama that went down during rehearsals and competitions. Miller, her students, and their mothers were often the cause of said drama (via Insider).
Since the series wrapped in 2019, many of show's stars have gone off and taken on their own successful endeavors. For instance, "Dance Moms" alum JoJo Siwa has made millions from her extremely triumphant career as a dancer, singer, and YouTuber. The Ziegler sisters graduated from their original claim to fame, but their careers in show business are just getting started.
Maddie Ziegler's career soared after Dance Moms
Maddie Ziegler was known on "Dance Moms" for wowing audiences and being Abby Lee Miller's favorite student. Based on her multitude of acting roles of late, it seems that her award-winning dance career assisted her transition into becoming a star on the big screen.
However, Ziegler didn't wait until "Dance Moms" was over to branch out. In 2014, the dance prodigy starred in Sia's hit "Chandelier" music video. It was her first of many projects as the singer's muse. A year later, she appeared opposite Shia LaBeouf in her "Elastic Heart" music video, which amassed over one billion views on YouTube.
After touring with Sia (via Insider), Ziegler became a judge on "So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation" (via Deadline). She was only 13 at the time. Later, she was involved in controversy after Sia cast her as an autistic teen in her directorial debut feature film, "Music." In an interview with The Project, the hitmaker doubled-down on her decision and claimed it was inspired by nepotism more than ableism.
Ziegler went on to appear in Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" and co-starred with Jenna Ortega in the HBO Max film "The Fallout" (via IMDb). Although the dancer-turned-actress does not currently have any other films in the works, by the looks of her Instagram, she seems to be keeping busy with paid partnerships for brands like Kate Spade, Fabletics and Swarovski.
Mackenzie 'Kenzie' Ziegler is working on her rising music career
As one of the youngest dancers on "Dance Moms", Mackenzie "Kenzie" Ziegler has been in front of the cameras since the age of 6 (via BuzzFeed). It doesn't look like she's stepping back anytime soon.
While on the show, Ziegler went by the stage name "Mack Z," which became the title of her 2014 pop album (via Spotify). After exiting the show with her sis in 2016, the younger Ziegler continued pursuing her music career. She released her album "Phases" in 2018 under the name Kenzie (via Spotify) and won a Teen Choice Award that same year (via Feeling the Vibe).
Following in her older sister's footsteps, Ziegler both executive produced and starred in the Brat TV web series "Total Eclipse" between 2018 and 2020 (via IMDb). In 2019, she added another main role to her catalogue by playing the title role of the animated movie "Ice Princess Lily." A year later, she took another page out of her sister's book and collaborated with Sia on a song called "EXHALE." More recently, she shocked fans in the spin-off of "The Masked Singer" called "The Masked Dancer," where she danced as "Tulip" (via YouTube).
Currently, Ziegler has an impressive 14.8 Instagram followers and 22.1 million on TikTok. We can't wait to see what the talented teen does next.
