What Behati Prinsloo Really Thought About Adam Levine When They Were On A Break

For a long time, Adam Levine was one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors'. Aside from his numerous tattoos — naturally, each of Levine's tattoos means something unique — the Maroon 5 singer was also known for his rotating succession of model girlfriends over the years, from Rebecca Ginos and Jane Herman Bishop to Arielle Vandenberg and Anne Vyalitsana (via PopSugar). That is, until Behati Prinsloo came along. According to Us Weekly, Levine and the Victoria's Secret model were linked for the first time in May 2012. While the "Beautiful Mistakes" singer and Prinsloo took a two-month break from their relationship in 2013, their undeniable love and affection for one another drew them back together.

When Prinsloo and Levine said "I do" in July 2014, Levine went from being a lady's man to a married one. "Famous last words, I'll never get married," "The Voice" coach jokingly shared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno." Levine shared that meeting "the one" changed his views on tying the knot. "And then you marry them and it's wonderful," he continued. But as many people — we're looking at you, Ross and Rachel — going on a break doesn't always end well.

What were both stars thinking during that time, and how did they find their way back to one another?

Behati Prinsloo believed Adam Levine needed to mature

While going on a break can often lead to a full breakup, there are a few exceptions to that rule. From Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell to Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, there are many celebrity couples who have survived rocky periods. Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine are one of those couples.

According to Elle, Prinsloo opened up about her time apart from Levine on the Joan River's show "Fashion Police." The model's take on her now-husband? Apparently, the Namibia native thought that Levine needed some time to mature.

What could Prinsloo be referring to? According to Us Weekly, it seems as though Levine had reverted back to his old ways after his split from Prinsloo. During the months that the singer and model were apart, photos surfaced of the "Payphone" singer on a beach vacation with "Sports Illustrated" model Nina Agdal. Oof. One must remember, too, that the touring singer lifestyle can often involve alcohol or drugs, as well as general bad decision making. Therefore, she gave Levine some time to show that he really wanted her — and only her.

Levine and Prinsloo's split was immediately followed by a marriage proposal

While taking some time apart can often create further distance between a couple, it must have been a wake-up call for Adam Levine. "The Nina [Agdal] thing was not that serious and was not going to last," a source shared with Us Weekly. "After Adam broke up with Behati [Prinsloo], he couldn't stop thinking about her. He realized he really loved her and wanted to be with her." Maybe absence really does help the heart grow fonder.

Following his split with Agdal, Levine expressed his love for Prinsloo with the ultimate grand gesture: a proposal. An insider shared that when the Los Angeles native saw Prinsloo for the first time after their breakup, he was "flooded with emotion."

While some may have viewed the proposal as hasty, Prinsloo was certainly no rebound. The lovebirds have been married since they walked down the aisle in Los Cabos, Mexico, in 2014, as noted by People. The happy couple is now the proud parents of two daughters, Dusty Rose and Gio Grace, as noted by Bustle. In fact, parenthood is one of the prime factors that has kept Levine from coming back to "The Voice," per USA Today

"I definitely feel like I'm sitting in the chair I'm supposed to be sitting in right now," Levine shared with People, as a recent newly-wed. "It all feels very natural." It just goes to show that when you know, you know!
