Jessie J Shuts Down Fan Who Commented On Her Weight Months After Miscarriage
Celebrities are used to the public weighing in on their appearance but that does not mean certain people in the spotlight are okay with it. As Elle Australia notes, stars from Lena Dunham to Kourtney Kardashian have called out commenters who engage in body shaming them online. Now, we can add a new name to the list of ladies who aren't letting fans get away with saying whatever they want about famous people's bodies. Jessie J just took to Instagram to remind folks that sharing unsolicited opinions on someone's weight are "wild."
First, it's important to share that the singer recently went through a very difficult loss, having suffered a miscarriage in November of last year. "Yesterday morning I was laughing with a friend saying 'seriously though how am I going to get through my gig in LA tomorrow night without telling the whole audience I am pregnant.' By yesterday afternoon I was dreading the thought of getting through the gig without breaking down...After going for my 3rd scan and being told there was no longer a heartbeat," the singer opened up to fans at the time in an emotional Instagram post (via People).
Then, less than six months after losing her pregnancy, Jessie J was back on her Instagram Story with another very personal message for her fans. But this time, she took a mean commenter to task.
Jessie J isn't asking for anyone's opinions on her body
The story starts with Jessie J just sharing a photo of herself to her Instagram Story not being able to button her jeans, captioning the shot, "Mood." As Hollywood Life notes, a follower must have had something negative to say about the singer's body, which is when Jessie J got serious. "Stop commenting on people's weight. Anyone. Just stop. Or telling someone they look pregnant for sure. Or you look skinny. Just anything. Just Stop. I see it so much on socials and know it happens in real life," she blasted the commenter (via Daily Mail).
The London native went on to assert, "I have gained 10 pounds in the past 6 months and I feel great." She added, "Who cares?! I don't care as long as I feel good and I'm healthy." The 34-year-old went on to confess to a particularly stinging moment when someone asked her if she was pregnant, and commented that she looked as if she was. "They also know of what I went through last year," she acknowledged.
"Not cool to just say or comment on anyone's body," Jessie J ultimately noted, adding that if she wants someone's opinion, she'll ask. Until then, the "Bang Bang" singer, who was alleged to be feuding with Nicki Minaj at one point, proclaimed others' opinions are not "needed" or "helpful" and called it "wild" how some people don't seem to be aware of that fact.
