Here's What Prince William Reportedly Said About Prince Harry During His Royal Tour
Prince William and Kate Middleton are in the midst of their first joint royal tour in years, around the Caribbean, but it didn't start off well for them. As People reported, the Cambridges were forced to cancel the first stop on their visit, a remote cacao farm in Belize, a former British colony. The visit was canceled following an anti-colonialism protest organized by locals. The royal visit had been scheduled without notifying the community, leading to outrage, especially as they were reportedly told they had to let the royals use the local football field as a landing pad (via the Daily Mail).
William and Kate carried on with the rest of the tour, visiting various cultural sites as well as making impassioned speeches about their pet causes and, at least in the duchess's case, wowing everybody with their fashion choices, per Town & Country. Despite a rocky start, the royal couple is doing exactly what they set out to do, which is promoting Britain's ongoing relationship with the region in honor of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year.
And now, William's comments about his estranged brother, Prince Harry, really have people talking.
William and Harry have reportedly been feuding for years
Prince William has been on the outs with younger brother Prince Harry for a while now, and the royals seem no closer to reconciling. As Cosmopolitan details, rumors have been circulating since 2018, when William's issues with Meghan Markle allegedly came to the fore. Meghan and Harry's infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, conducted after they defected from the royal family, further solidified the brothers' rift.
William and Harry reunited at their grandfather, Prince Philip's, funeral as well as at the statue unveiling for their mother, Princess Diana, but their relationship was clearly strained. At both events, the brothers put their differences aside, but their interactions were formal at best. In fact, royal expert Katie Nicholl admitted to Cosmopolitan, "I don't know that things will ever be the way they were between William and Harry."
However, it seems the longstanding rumors might be just that. According to People, during a recent visit to the village of Hopkins, in Belize, William made a casual reference to his brother that suggests things might actually be okay between them. After the Cambridges joined in with some locals dancing, Cynthia Ellis-Topsy, "ambassador at large for the Garifuna nation," revealed how she had referenced Harry's previous 2012 trip to Belize, during which "he was dancing and didn't need encouragement."
She added, "He is a wild card," in response to which "William laughed and said, 'Harry's not self-conscious.'" Maybe the brothers have reconciled behind closed doors after all.
