Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan Can't Believe This Celeb Is A Fan Of The Show
Fans are counting down the days until Season 2 of "Bridgerton" drops on Netflix on March 25, 2022.
The show became an overnight sensation when it premiered in 2020 and launched the careers of Regé-Jean Page, Phoebe Dynevor, and Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington as well as the mysterious gossipmonger Lady Whistledown.
While Coughlan knew how lucky she was to be cast on the Shonda Rimes show, she never could have imagined that it would reach this level of popularity.
"You hope people will connect with whatever you make, but I didn't think 63 million households would watch it," Coughlan told Tatler. "That number blows my mind. It's amazing that it brought people joy at the end of such a dark year. People are writing 'Bridgerton' musicals, and are being inspired by the clothes and finding joy in romance again. It's a really special thing to be part of."
Among the show's legions of fans are quite a few celebrities. Mila Kunis joked that she was "cheating" on Ashton Kutcher with the show, while Drew Barrymore, Chelsea Peretti, Gabrielle Union, and Chrishell Stause have all admitted to being obsessed with it, per US Weekly.
Even royals like Sarah Ferguson are fans. "I adored 'Bridgerton' so much that I watched it twice, deliberately. I'm obsessed with it," the Duchess of York told US Weekly.
But there's one celebrity fan who has really blown Coughlan away.
Nicole Coughlan is amazed that Kim Kardashian is a huge Bridgerton fan
Kim Kardashian is a huge "Bridgerton" fan and was in shock when it was revealed that star Regé-Jean Page wouldn't be returning for Season 2. "I am not OK!!!!" Kardashian wrote on Instagram after the new broke (per US Weekly).
For Coughlan, she's thrilled that the reality star and entrepreneur loves the show so much. "It's crazy to think that something you made has been seen by that many people in the world. It's quite mind-blowing," she told Tatler.
And the actress is ready to share the show's highly anticipated second season with all of its fans — and it could include some romance for her character.
"You definitely see her mature more," Coughlan told E! News. "I think of it in the Britney [Spears] thing, 'she's not a girl, not yet a woman' in this season. So she's more aware of the power she wields — that doesn't mean she's any better at using it. She definitely gets herself into some sticky situations."
She added: "You definitely see a lot more of Penelope and who she is."
