Britney Spears Gets Painfully Real About Her Parents In New Post
Though Britney Spears was first placed under a conservatorship in 2008, following a series of erratic incidents, the public at large didn't develop a strong interest in the pop star's legal situation until The New York Times released the documentary "Framing Britney Spears" in February 2021 (via BBC).
Just months after the illuminating documentary's release, Spears gave her account of the cruelty she suffered at the hands of her father and conservator, Jamie Spears. After claiming that she was drugged, forced to perform, and denied the right to have children, Spears was finally released from her father's control.
After years of silently fighting for her independence, Spears became a free woman on Nov. 12, 2021. Since that fateful day, the 40-year-old has increasingly shed light on what she's endured over the years.
The "Baby One More Time" singer recently shared an Instagram post expressing more of her negative feelings toward her family (via the Daily Mail).
Britney Spears wishes her mom did more
Grammy Award winner Britney Spears shared an Instagram post about family relationships (via the Daily Mail).
The star shared a meme of a questionnaire completed by a child. The child names his dad his hero but notes that the father is afraid of the child's mother. Spears revealed in her caption that she felt her mom, Lynne Spears, never really cared for her.
She wrote: "This is the day I realized my mom should have scared (screaming emoji) my dad in life !!!!! Or possibly just attempted to care!!!" The pop star also revealed that she felt attacked by her mother.
"Psss when moms play their daughters lol ... Geez my whole life ... if you look up you can see a CHILD WROTE THIS ... ONLY THE CHILD KNOWS !!!! Pssssssss and what the child said is the way it should be !!!!"
While it appears Spears is holding onto a lot of anger and resentment toward her mother, she has an outlet to release this tension. According to Us Weekly, she signed a $15 million deal to write a tell-all book that will dive into her issues with various family members. A source told the publication, "Britney will hold nothing back in the memoir."
