Meet Bridgerton's Newest Actress, Charithra Chandran
When Bridgerton premiered on Netflix on Christmas Day in 2020, it quickly broke records by becoming the most-watched show on the platform at the time, according to Business Insider. Though it has since dropped down to second place behind "Squid Game," there's still a huge demand for Season 2, which IndieWire reported will be coming on March 25, 2022. Furthermore, the show's third and fourth seasons have already been announced. "More #Bridgerton love coming to this room soon! Renewed for Seasons 3 AND 4," the show's creator, Chris Van Dusen, posted on Twitter in April 2021. "I've poured every ounce of myself into creating this show and the way the world continues to embrace it continues to AMAZE ME," he added.
While the new seasons (sadly) will not feature fan favorite Regé-Jean Page in his role as Simon Basset, there will still be plenty of familiar faces, such as the eight Bridgerton children (including Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne and Claudia Jessie as Eloise), as well as the Featherington sisters (including Nicola Coughlan as Penelope). Per IMDb, there will also be a new family in town: the Sharmas. This new family features Shelley Conn as Lady Mary Sharma, Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma, and newcomer Charithra Chandran as Edwina Sharma.
Charithra Chandran is poised to break into the acting world
Born in 1997, Charithra Chandran was raised in England, though Lifestyle Asia states she is "deeply rooted in her Indian and Tamil culture." The up-and-coming actress has always been drawn to the stage. Per the outlet, she trained at the National Youth Theater and attended Oxford University to study philosophy, politics, and economics. Before dipping her toe in the acting pond, she was a parliamentary assistant at the House of Commons, and an intern for Global Water Intelligence.
Though Chandran might still be carving out a name for herself in the entertainment biz as of this writing, she's already landed two big roles in quick succession. Per Wion, she's fresh off a role as Sabina Pleasance in British spy thriller "Alex Rider." She also plays Edwina Sharma in "Bridgerton" Season 2. "I'm very lucky to have been able to do two amazing projects so early in my career," Chandron gushed to Wion. When asked how she has managed to identify with two starkly different characters in such a short time, Chandron highlighted the importance of costume, hair, and makeup. "I find things that I identify with the character. So, on Alex Rider, it was Sabina's jewelry. On Bridgerton, it was Edwina's hair," she said. Even though "Bridgerton" isn't here just yet, Chandron has given her Instagram followers some sneak peeks of the upcoming season. This includes a post about her character, with a caption that reads, "Trust me, Edwina packs a punch."
