Christine Brown Claims She's Completely Over Polygamy. Here's Why

When "Sister Wives" star Christine Brown announced she was splitting from husband and co-star Kody Brown after 25 years of marriage, fans weren't exactly surprised. Christine made the announcement on Instagram, noting the two had simply "grown apart" and confirming they would continue to co-parent their children going forward. Kody, meanwhile, admitted her decision brought him "a great deal of sadness."

According to People, shortly after their split became public, Christine revealed in a Cameo video for a fan that it was "a long time coming." The reality star was doing a lot better after calling it quits with her husband, however, claiming she felt like a "better person" as a result. In fact, Christine shared, "Life is so great. I had no idea life could be simple."

"Sister Wives" follows the plural marriage of Kody, first wife Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, Christine, and finally his most recent acquisition, Robyn Brown, who joined them in 2010. Their lives have been documented for 16 seasons thus far, but cracks began to show in recent years, in every relationship. As it turns out, Christine has long tired of polygamy.

Christine Brown no longer believes in the practice

Polygamy isn't for everybody, which is partly why "Sister Wives" is so popular. But Christine Brown, who's practiced the lifestyle for the best part of three decades, has gradually realized it's not for her either. According to Hollywood Life, during the Season 16 finale, which was filmed before Christine and soon-to-be ex-husband Kody Brown announced their divorce, she admitted that, going forward, "I don't want polygamy, that's for sure." As Christine explained, "Part of the reason I'm leaving is because I don't believe in it for me anymore."

Kody previously cornered Christine for allegedly giving him mixed signals. He explained how, publicly, she was "talking about how much she loves plural marriage and all this stuff and how she wanted sister wives and not a husband, but at the same time, she's telling me she hates plural marriage." However, Kody later acknowledged, "The mistake I made was not saying, 'I'm sorry, I love you, and I validate what you're saying.'"

In fact, Christine's issues with polygamy even left the father-of-16 questioning his own commitment to their lifestyle. According to Kody, he tried everything to make Christine happy but eventually realized, "There is something missing, there's some problem, something is going on. Frankly, it could just be plural marriage." Per Us Weekly, although Christine wondered whether she was being selfish by leaving, she knew she was doing the right thing because, "I wasn't present. I wasn't happy. It just wasn't working anymore."
