Love Is Blind's Kyle Reveals The Biggest Lessons He Learned About Himself - Exclusive
During the first episodes of "Love Is Blind" Season 2, viewers are introduced to 12 individuals who become engaged following the show's intriguing pod process.
On the Netflix dating show, the pods are rooms outfitted for comfortable conversation between hopeful singles, though the men and women are only allowed to speak to one another during this time, hence the show's name (via Netflix).
Couples become engaged without seeing each other, and the face-to-face introductions typically come a day later, building the excitement and anticipation even further.
One of the individuals taking part in this emotional process on Season 2 is Kyle Abrams, who proposes to fellow contestant Shaina Hurley.
The situation between Kyle and Shaina becomes strained as the episodes progress. Shaina is a devout Christian who has lingering feelings for another contestant, Shayne Jansen. Kyle, on the other hand, is an atheist who has his sights set on Shaina from the beginning.
The first few episodes chronicle the couple's tumultuous relationship after they're whisked away to Mexico to put their emotional bond to the test. Though Kyle and Shaina care for each other, she's hesitant to pursue a relationship with someone who doesn't share her spiritual beliefs.
She ultimately leaves Mexico and heads back to Chicago, and Kyle eventually follows her.
During an exclusive interview with The List, Kyle Abrams discussed the complicated nature of his relationship with Shaina as well as the biggest lessons he learned about himself on "Love Is Blind."
Kyle and Shaina didn't see eye-to-eye
When Kyle Abrams and Shaina Hurley initially connect in the pods, it's clear that the two have feelings for each other. This becomes complicated once religion is introduced to the conversation because Kyle and Shaina have strong, conflicting beliefs.
Kyle, for his part, remains optimistic and believes it's something that they can work through together. However, Shaina doesn't quite agree with this notion, and she ultimately chooses to leave Mexico to give herself time alone to assess the situation.
Viewers are left on a cliffhanger following the fifth episode of "Love Is Blind," as Shaina is seen leaving Mexico after spending little time with Kyle. The show ultimately tracks Shaina and Kyle back to Chicago, where they try to make things work.
Eventually, they fail to expand upon their initial emotional connection, and Shaina decides to call off their engagement. Kyle told The List that he learned a pretty big lesson about himself during this difficult time.
"I learned so much about myself and what I could tolerate and what I'm really looking for," he said. "I thought giving it a shot with such drastic beliefs was the best approach. And I guess it didn't work out."
Even though it didn't end the way he hoped, Kyle said he was proud of how he handled the situation with Shaina.
He's glad that he remained true to himself
Kyle Abrams made an effort to work things out with his fiancée, Shaina Hurley, despite their significant differences. While some people would have been defeated by the end result, Kyle has remained optimistic.
When speaking to The List about his time on Season 2 of "Love Is Blind," Kyle said he's had time to reflect on his experience and that he's proud of how he handled everything with Shaina.
"I'm most proud that I didn't lie to her and say that I'm even the slightest bit religious because I'm not," he said. "I didn't even pretend I could convert to whatever. I kind of made it clear. I'm not religious, and I'm not going to change, but I'm open to letting you do and believe whatever you want."
Despite the way things worked out, Kyle's glad that he approached the relationship with an open mind and a stout heart, he said.
"I'm happy that I was open to dating someone who had completely opposite views. That's something I would never do in the past, but I followed through with the experiment. I wasn't going to quit. So, I'm so glad I didn't give up that easily."
"Love Is Blind" Season 2 is now available to stream on Netflix.
