However, as talented and beloved she was, this didn't mean that her life was perfect. Rivera experienced several ups and downs in her romantic life. Most prominent of which was her dysfunctional relationship with the late Mark Salling, a fellow "Glee" castmate, her tumultuous relationship with Big Sean, and her short-lived marriage with Ryan Dorsey.

Rivera's relationship with Big Sean broke due to allegations of cheating, among other issues. Once they broke up, Sean released a diss track, a move he stated that he later regretted upon the tragic passing of Rivera — and that is because he went against one request that the deceased actress asked of him.

When the news of Rivera's boating accident surfaced in 2020, Sean broke his silence on the matter and showed support for his ex. He was also very heartfelt in his tribute to her, per PopSugar. However, not all of his actions have been seen positively. Once Sean stated that his 2014 hit "I Don't F–k With You" wasn't about Rivera, her fans sprang to action, via Capital Xtra .

They pointed out that Rivera had called him out in her memoir "Sorry Not Sorry." In the book, Rivera spoke about only seeing Sean once after their break up, and they talked things out. She stated that he played "IDFWU" for her and she begged him to not write any songs about her.

However she felt about the song at first, Rivera was able to poke fun at it before she passed on. The actress actually used it in a Lip Sync Battle performance, per Billboard
