Royal Expert Reveals The Reason Kate Middleton Allegedly Cried Over Her Wedding Dress
When Kate Middleton and Prince William announced their engagement, attention almost immediately shifted to Kate's dress. Royal watchers began to speculate what the soon-to-be Dutchess would wear. Would it be traditional or trendy? Would she echo past royal dresses or find something of her own? To the delight of royal fans everywhere, Kate donned a gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown with lace appliques and hand-cut flowers.
The dress was so stunning and popular that, more than a decade since their wedding day, it is still talked about among fans of the British monarchy. According to Page Six, after unveiling her wedding dress, bridal style around the world became heavily influenced by Middleton's choice of gown. Celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Karlie Kloss and Nicky Hilton wore similar gowns, emulating the same long-sleeved, lace look as the Duchess of Cambridge did.
Although, while the onlooking public seemed to love Middleton's dress, there were rumors that she herself was quite unhappy with one aspect of it, and even shed tears over it.
Kate Middleton's wedding dress surprise was ruined
Being a royal comes with little privacy, an aspect of her new life that Kate Middleton wasn't quite yet used to before her marriage. With the public eye focused on her nuptials to Prince William in 2011, so much of their big day was released before it was intended to be — and perhaps the biggest secret to have leaked was her choice of dress designer.
Per Marie Claire, it was revealed that Middleton's dress was being designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, a detail she wanted to keep from the public until the dress was revealed on her big day. According to Katie Nichol, a royal expert, Middleton tried hard to keep it a secret and was crushed when The Sunday Times released the information two months prior to the wedding. "Behind the scenes, I think that caused tears at the Palace because Kate had done everything she could to keep the wedding dress a secret," said Nicholl in the documentary "Secrets of the Royal Dressmakers" (via The Mirror).
Although the Duchess may have shed some tears after her secret was revealed, the true reveal of the gown was still met with awe. And today, a full decade later, her gown is standing the test of time.
