Why Fans Think Taylor Swift And Joe Alwyn Are Secretly Married

To be a Taylor Swift fan isn't quite like being in any other fandom. You don't simply wait for tabloids to announce updates on her life, and you don't expect her to openly share them either. No, it's a much more complex process that involves deep diving, overanalyzing, and some serious internet sleuthing. Swifties have gotten the hang of things by now. With Swift, it's all about digging for clues, or "Easter eggs" as she likes to call them. Don't get us wrong, this isn't a matter of overly obsessive fans creating conspiracy theories. Swift herself has confirmed repeatedly that she's in on it. Once, when speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she admitted, "I love to communicate through Easter eggs. I think the best messages are cryptic ones."

If you want to crack a story about Swift, you need to do more than run a simple Google search and sift through tabloids. Instead, you track down some of her fan accounts on social media and fall down the seemingly never-ending rabbit hole of fan theories. Nine times out of 10, Swifties call it first. With most celebrity fandoms, you may simply roll your eyes and keep scrolling at their theories, but when it comes to Swifties, you pay close attention. Odds are, they're right about everything. So, if they're convinced that Swift and Joe Alwyn are secretly married, could they be on to something?

Lyric and music video clues point to Swift saying yes

Throughout her career, Taylor Swift has often been linked to her dating history. The tabloids love commenting on whom she's dating and what song lyric are about them. Her romantic life was constantly in the spotlight, but that changed with her relationship with Joe Alwyn. The relationship was initially kept under wraps, and it wasn't made public until a few months after they began dating (per Us Weekly). Swift maintained a shroud of secrecy around this relationship, choosing to protect it from public scrutiny. This was frustrating for fans who loved seeing the couple together and wanted more details. Swifties then resorted to decoding song lyrics and vague statements Swift made about Alwyn to put together the pieces. The latest piece has been that the couple are secretly married.

A source close to the couple revealed to Us Weekly in 2019 that, "He's just waiting to find the perfect time to propose. He wants to make it unforgettable and extremely special ... Taylor's friends are all talking about a proposal and how she really wants to marry Joe. He's her dream guy." Well, fans are convinced it's already happened. One of the main reasons why Switfites think the couple have secretly wed is due to the lyric change in Swift's re-release of "Love Story." In the original version, Swift sings "baby just say yes," but in the re-release, she sings the lyrics as "baby just said yes" (via The Things).

Another musical hint fans feel sealed the deal was Swift appearing in a wedding dress in the music video for "Willow," a song that they believe is about her and Alwyn's relationship. Could it be true — has Swift really just said yes?
