How Jeremiah Duggar Broke His Family's Courtship Rules

When it comes to dating, the Duggar family of "19 Kids and Counting" fame has a strict rulebook to follow. They take the dating process so seriously that they call it a courtship as an attempt to give the process a greater meaning. When you are courting someone, the end result is typically marriage, and more often than not, the Duggar kids walk down the aisle quickly.

Casual dating is a big no, but that's just the starting point for the family. According to Today, there is to be no kissing before your wedding day, you must be chaperoned by a family member every time you are hanging out with the person you are courting, you can't hold hands, and if you are texting, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are definitely going through those messages to make sure you're keeping things PG.

Most of the married Duggar kids like Jill and Jessa have followed these rules to a T, but some of the younger Duggars are taking more chances when it comes to courting. Jeremiah Duggar, one of the latest kids to court, recently broke one of his parent's strict rules during his courtship with Hannah Wissmann.

It seems the couple didn't follow courtship rules perfectly

Recently, news broke that another Duggar kid would be saying "I Do." Jeremiah Duggar popped the question to his partner, Hannah Wissmann after just three months of courting. The happy Duggar took to Instagram to write, "She said YES!!!!" Adding, "Hannah, getting to know you for the past year has been so incredible! I can't even find the words to describe it. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I cannot wait to marry you. I love you!!"

While patriarch Jim Bob approved of the pair courting from the jump, that might have changed once their engagement pictures were released, The Hollywood Gossip speculated. In a photo of the newly engaged couple, they were hugging. That might seem totally normal by everyone else's standards, but that is a big no-no for the Duggar family. You are not allowed to hug your significant other from anywhere but the side. Front-facing hugs come after marriage, of course.

However, Jeremiah and Hannah broke the rule and hugged facing each other for a photo. It seems it's not the first time the pair have risked it all by front-hugging, TV Shows Ace notes. Several photos show the pair a little too close for Jim Bob's comfort. Thankfully, they'll be married soon, and able to do whatever they want!
