The Truth About Miranda Kerr's Marriage To Evan Spiegel
Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel are one of the most well-known power couples. Kerr is one of the highest-paid models, mostly known for her work as the first Aussie Victoria's Secret model, but she also has quickly become a big name in the beauty and skincare industry thanks to her organic brand, Kora, which she launched in 2009 (via Hello!).
Spiegel is the co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., famous for the video-and-photo-sharing app Snapchat, which was released in 2011 and went public in 2017 (via Biography). The pair share a luxe life together (according to Forbes, Spiegel is worth around $7 billion), which includes a $30 million mansion in Paris they purchased in early 2021 (via the New York Post).
The twosome, who met in 2014 and married in 2017, per WSJ Magazine, share their extravagant life with their two sons, Hart and Myles, along with Kerr's eldest son, Flynn, whose dad is Kerr's ex-husband, actor Orlando Bloom. Together with Bloom, his partner, Katy Perry, and their daughter, Daisy, Kerr and Spiegel are one big and very rich family, per People. Here's what you need to know about Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel's marriage.
Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel met at a party and (mostly) hit it off
Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel met in a way that only two posh people can — at a party hosted by Louis Vuitton at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. According to WSJ Magazine, Spiegel was invited to the fall 2014 event by French telecom billionaire Xavier Niel. Knowing Spiegel was attending without a date, Niel asked his life partner, Delphine Arnault, to find a suitable seat mate for the tech genius. Arnault immediately thought of Kerr. "I thought, 'She is very beautiful; I'm sure he will have a good time,'" she told the publication.
Arnault was right. The two hit it off, bonding over Kerr's favorite piece of classical music, "Spiegel im Spiegel," and Spiegel gave Kerr his number. Per WSJ Magazine, Glenda Bailey, the editor of Harper's Bazaar at the time, told Kerr, "You're going to marry that guy." However, instead of hanging around to chat with Kerr further, according to the supermodel, "All of a sudden he gets up" and leaves the dinner before it ended. About his surprising Irish goodbye, Spiegel told WSJ: "I thought I had no chance [with Miranda], so I wasn't going to waste my time."
Their courtship was slow and steady
Even with Evan Spiegel's quick exit from the museum party, that wasn't the end of his story with the model. About a month later, after taking a few shots of "liquid courage" in the form of saké post-photo shoot, Miranda Kerr texted Spiegel and asked him if he ever listened to "Spiegel im Spiegel." He was apparently surprised to hear from her (via WSJ Magazine).
Their courtship was so slow that Kerr wondered if Spiegel wanted to be just friends, even telling The Sydney Morning Herald they were "really good friends" before they started dating. Finally, Spiegel let his feelings be known by kissing Kerr after he dropped off a Christmas gift while her parents were visiting. As Kerr told WSJ Magazine, the kiss was "very slow, a respectful kiss goodbye."
Eventually, the couple went Instagram official in early 2016, with Kerr sharing rare and affectionate snaps of their new love (via Elle Australia). Around the same time, she told The Herald: "We've just been having fun together and sharing our time amongst friends and family."
When it came to intimacy, their relationship continued to be slow and steady, with Kerr revealing she and Spiegel were waiting to have sex until marriage. "My partner is very traditional," she told The Times.
Despite their hefty bank account, they don't go out a lot
While Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel certainly could fly to London or Rome on a moment's notice, their dating life was less glamorous and more down-to-earth than most would think. While they did make their red carpet debut at a Grammys party and also had date night at the White House for a State Dinner, most of the time, the couple kept their dating life quiet. In a 2016 interview with Net-a-Porter, the supermodel shared that, while Spiegel was 25 at the time, he "acts like he's 50," adding how they don't go out and party. "We'd rather be at home and have dinner, go to bed early" (via E! News).
A source close to Spiegel told E! News that it was his down-to-earth and intelligent personality that attracted her in the first place. "They have incredible conversations and can talk about anything. He comes from a wonderful close-knit and loving family and that was a real draw to her."
The couple got engaged pretty quickly
Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel obviously had a strong bond from the start, so it's not surprising they got engaged pretty quickly, with Spiegel popping the question in July 2016. Kerr announced their engagement via Instagram with a black-and-white photo of the ring alongside a caption that read, "I said yes!"
According to the Victoria's Secret model, in an interview with Female First, she was not expecting the proposal. She also recalled Spiegel saying, "'Miranda, I'm telling you now, this is the first and last time I'm going to kneel down in front of you.'" She recalled her reaction to his proposal as being "terribly nervous and emotional, trembling with happiness."
A few months later, the couple celebrated their impending nuptials with friends and family at their engagement party, which was hosted at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles (via E! News). According to a source, the party was "classy and chic" and "everyone was celebrating and having a great time."
They married in a lavish backyard wedding
You wouldn't think Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel would exchange vows in a backyard, but that's exactly what they did — although very elegantly, of course. The couple made it official in May 2017 in the backyard of Spiegel's home in Brentwood, California.
According to People, it was an intimate affair with about 40 of their closest friends and family members. While it was small, a source said the wedding was also "lavish and classy," with Kerr being heavily involved with the planning. "She has great taste and knew exactly what she wanted," a source told the magazine. And what she wanted was a Dior wedding dress, telling Vogue, "I think it's every girl's dream to have Dior design her wedding dress." Together with the team at Dior, they designed a wedding gown with long sleeves and a high neck. "A dress that fully covers you creates a sense of purity and mystery," said Kerr.
The day was also extremely personal. Spiegel and Kerr exchanged written vows to one another, and Kerr's son with Orlando Bloom, Flynn, served as ring bearer before everyone celebrated at the reception where Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat performed (via People).
Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel became parents to two boys
In addition to her son, Flynn, whom she shares with ex-husband Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel welcomed two sons of their own into their lives. First, son Hart was born in May 2018 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. At the time, Spiegel gushed that fatherhood was "impossible to describe," calling it "a life transforming event" (via E! News). On Father's Day that year, Kerr penned a special message to her husband on Instagram, writing that "watching you become a Father warms my heart. You're a natural and Hart is the luckiest boy to have you as his Dad."
Just 10 months after the birth of Hart, the couple announced they were expecting again. On October 15, 2019, via Instagram, Kerr announced the arrival of their second son, Myles, writing, "We couldn't be more excited to welcome our beautiful son into our family."
Of course, the couple had plenty of parenting practice with Kerr's son, Flynn, whom she shares with actor Orlando Bloom. Kerr introduced him to Spiegel after six months of dating following Bloom's blessing. At the time, the supermodel told Net-A-Porter, "Evan met Flynn, so yeah, things are going well. Orlando thinks he's great. We're just a modern family now!" (via E! News).
They are one big happy family with Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry
It really is one big happy family when it comes to Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel and their relationship with Kerr's ex, Orlando Bloom, and his fiancée, Katy Perry, along with their daughter, Daisy.
On Kerr's relationship with her ex and their co-parenting, Spiegel said it "was very different from what I experienced. I am in no way a replacement for Flynn's dad. I feel like [I'm part of] Team Flynn," adding that Kerr insists on having an "open-door" policy even when it comes to Bloom and his family (via WSJ Magazine).
According to Kerr, the inspiration behind her special relationship with Bloom was inspired by her grandparents. "My grandmother had what I call generosity of spirit," she told Marie Claire Australia. "She'd always be welcoming people with a cup of tea or making a cake or cutting up fresh fruit for everyone. Everybody was always welcome."
The beauty mogul even went so far as to say she loves Perry more than Bloom on the "Moments with Candace Parker" podcast. "We celebrate all the important milestones together," she shared.
The two balance each other out and inspire each other to be their best
Although Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel might seem different on the outside — she's a supermodel immersed in the beauty and fashion world, he's a tech genius — they do complement one another beautifully.
In 2016, Kerr shared with Female First that, even though the couple comes from "different worlds," describing Spiegel as more "guarded and reserved" opposed to her more open nature, she said they have common values, "a sense of loyalty, family and honesty."
While the couple admitted to WSJ Magazine that they "see the world very differently," Spiegel said that's a "huge strength." "There's nothing more helpful than having someone who loves you, and knows you really well, point out a different perspective," he said.
It was Spiegel who encouraged Kerr to expand Kora, her skincare brand, outside of Australia. Kerr recalled him telling her, "You need to take a risk. If you believe in this, put everything into it.'" She took his advice, and now Kora is sold internationally through retail outlets, including Sephora. As Kerr said: "He's proud that I've started my own business. He gives me tons of advice. He's my soulmate" (via Female First).
The billionaire couple live a luxe life
With Evan Spiegel being one of the handful of billionaires on the planet and Miranda Kerr a successful model and business owner in her own right, you can imagine that their wealth is reflected in their marriage. From a vacation aboard a $250 million yacht to their extensive real estate portfolio, the couple knows how to throw down a lot of cash.
In fact, they bought two adjacent properties in the Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles for a cool $100 million in September 2021 (via SheKnows). Earlier that year, the couple plunked down $30 million for a 10,000-square-foot mansion in Paris which also has its own 10,000-square-foot private park (via the New York Post).
These properties round out the rest of their real estate buys (per SheKnows), which also include a $12 million mansion in Brentwood, California, that once belonged to Harrison Ford, a vineyard home in Australia, Kerr's beach house in Malibu, and Spiegel's Brentwood bachelor pad.
