They didn't waste any time

When Reed and Somerhalder decided it was time to tie the knot, the couple hadn't been together for very long. After six months of dating, they were ready for the next big step, getting engaged in January of 2015. The wedding followed just a few months after that, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. When you know, you just know, and Reed and Somerhalder definitely knew their relationship was the real deal.

They wanted a casual-feeling wedding

This bride and groom may be well-known celebrities, but a fancy, elaborate wedding is the last thing they wanted. As blushing bride, Reed, told Brides (via Glamour), the wedding was about three main topics. She said, "We wanted a Louisiana backyard-barbecue feel, with food stations and a dance floor for our closest friends and family. It really was all about the food, the dancing, and the love."

This couple pulled out all of the stops for their big day; creating the ultimate wedding that at the same time felt homey and close-knit.

The wedding was a surprise to guests

Wedding prep usually takes several months, sometimes even years. From the handy save-the-date invitations to the wedding showers, and so forth, everyone knows when a family member or friend's wedding is coming up. This was not the case for those close to Reed and Somerhalder.

As the couple described during an interview with Brides (via Glamour), the wedding guests actually thought they were coming to a housewarming party for the couple. However, when they arrived, a shuttle took them to Topanga Canyon, where the wedding ceremony took place. This may have been a bold move, but Reed and Somerhalder had the perfect explanation, saying, "We didn't want our loved ones to show up with any expectations or squeezed into formal attire."

A consideration I'm sure many guests were grateful for on the day.

Not just the bride wore white

While it's traditional and somewhat expected that Reed would be dressed in white, her groom joined in as well on the fashion choice.

According to POPSUGAR, Somerhalder wore a white suit by Nedo Bellucci. Reed was stunning in her beyond fabulous dress by Claire Pettibon. She even worked directly with Pettibon to create her ideal wedding dress. Lucky lady! A long-sleeve, lace dress, Reed appeared to be out of a different era.

As she shared with Brides (via Glamour), "Claire was an absolute dream to work with. Not only is she an amazing designer, but she has the most wonderful energy. We were on the same page from the moment we met." It's no wonder both the bride and groom looked amazing on their wedding day.

No harsh feelings between exes

Now when it comes to exes, normally they aren't a first thought on a wedding day. However, celebrities tend to be an exception to this rule. Somerhalder used to date actress Nina Dobrev when the two were filming The Vampire Diaries.

So what did Dobrev think of her ex's nuptials? She was unbelievably cool about it. And she's not having the drama and rumors that the media has been spreading. She shared her thoughts with E! News, saying, "When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful. They look happy and I am happy and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that. The drama is in the media, it's not with us. But of course, we're on a teen drama show, everyone's going to look for drama. If there's no drama, there's nothing to write about. I just ignore it."

Now that's an ideal ex situation.

All about that eat, drink, and be married life

Because Reed and Somerhalder are fabulous human beings, they had special touches with food and drink at the big event. First off, signature cocktails were themed to the bride and groom.

What was Reed's pick? According to POPSUGAR, it was "pear vodka, St. Germaine, and citrus bitters." And the groom's? "A spicy hibiscus margarita." And then it was time for the food. Bringing in Somerhalder's roots, the couple went with a Louisiana cookout style-theme, which featured "taco stands and a Cajun station." Seriously, could this wedding become any more magical?

Reed also was seriously sentimental when it came to thinking about her little one. She shared, "How is it possible to love someone so much already? All I know for sure is it's the strongest feeling I've ever felt." It's safe to say this will be the cutest family ever.
