Where Does Lacey Chabert Think Gretchen Wieners Would Be Today?

On April 30, 2004, "Mean Girls" made it's way onto the big screen (via IMDb). The star studded cast included Amanda Seyfried, Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, and Lacey Chabert portraying the ultra glamorous and exclusive social group known as The Plastics. Each member of The Plastics had their own distinct role. Regina George, played by McAdams, was the queen bee who inspired Cady Herron (Lohan) and her friends to play a series of life-ruining pranks. Karen Smith, played by Amanda Seyfriend, was a willing participant in the lower tier of the group, while Gretchen Weiners grew tired of living in the shadow of the group's leader.

Gretchen Weiners, played by Lacey Chabert, delivered countless iconic scenes throughout the course of the film. We begin to see her frustration with her social status when she doesn't receive a candy cane from Regina, and later delivers a scathing monologue in class driven by her displeasure. She says, "why should Caesar just get to stomp around like a giant while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his big feet? Brutus is just as cute as Caesar, right? Brutus is just as smart as Caesar, people totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar, and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody because that's not what Rome is about! We should totally just STAB CAESAR!" While nobody gets stabbed, Gretchen does come into her own by the end of the movie (via The Sun).

Where would Gretchen be today?

In the closing scene, Gretchen Weiners has become the queen bee of a different social group. She's seen wearing the hoop earrings that she was instructed by Regina George to never wear with her new friends hanging on her every word (via BuzzFeed). So, where does Lacey Chabert, the talented actress responsible for the comedically iconic portrayal of Gretchen Weiners, think that Regina George's underling would be today?

In 2020, the cast of "Mean Girls" reunited in order to inspire people to get out and vote. Fans were ecstatic to see The Plastics together again and, while a sequel wasn't officially discussed, people started wondering what life would look like for the former popular girls. Chabert told Lauren Zima of ET, "I feel like Gretchen is running the toaster strudel empire and she probably ended marrying Jason [Daniel DeSanto] and they probably have like six babies" (via The Sun). As an heiress, this future makes total sense for Gretchen Weiners. We'd love to see her as a wife and mom, and we're crossing our fingers that someday we get the sequel we all want.
