Are Meghan And Harry Really Returning To The UK In The Near Future?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle caused a stir when they announced their departure from the royal family in early 2020. The pair later left the U.K. and headed to California, where they currently live in Santa Barbara. "They're excited to be there and to become part of the community. It's a really happy time for them as a family," an insider previously told People. Since leaving the U.K. Harry has returned on two occasions. In April he went home for the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip (via BBC), and in July he made the trip home to unveil a statue in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana, per Reuters. However, Meghan wasn't with him during those occasions.

Royal expert Robert Jobson previously told Us Weekly that he's not sure Meghan will ever return to the U.K. following the drama the couples' exit caused. "I'm not sure Meghan will ever come to Britain again. She's not popular [right] now," Jobson said. The expert added that Meghan returning to dote on the queen could be considered as "hypocritical" after she and Harry spoke out in criticism of the royal family during their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

However, a new report suggests that Meghan could accompany Harry to the U.K. for an extended trip in the very near future.

The Invictus Games could be the perfect reason for Harry and Meghan to return to England

According to Marie Claire, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be planning a big trip to the U.K. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to Harry's home country this spring. Harry is set to travel to Europe in May for the Invictus Games, an event that he founded and features wounded soldiers and veterans competing in parasports. Meghan, as well as the couple's two children Archie and Lilibet, are also expected to accompany him on the trip. Since the family will already be in Europe, royal expert Russell Myers says that it's likely that they'll also come to the U.K. (via Express).

The Invictus Games are scheduled to take place from May 29 – June 5, and overlap with Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee weekend, which will celebrate the monarch's 70-year reign. "I think we can be certain that Harry and Meghan will be coming back to Britain" royal expert Katie Nicholl previously told ET (via Express). "I think the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022 are a likely opportunity for them to come over to be a part of the official celebrations of the Queen's 70th year."

Fans will be eagerly waiting to see if Harry and Meghan finally return to the U.K. together in 2022, and if they do, all eyes are sure to be on them during their trip.
