Inside Sophie Turner's Relationship With Joe Jonas
Whether you know Sophie Turner from her nearly decade-long stint on the hit show "Game of Thrones," or you've been a fan of the Jonas Brothers since you were in your early teens, it's safe to say that Turner and Joe Jonas are probably one of your favorite couples in Hollywood. After the pair met in 2016, Turner explained to Elle U.K. that they were "inseparable" from that day on. Fast forward to 2021, Jonas and Turner have been married (twice) for over two-and-a-half years, have a 1-year-old daughter named Willa, and seem more in love than ever (via Marie Claire).
Although Turner was only 23 when she married Jonas and was "fully preparing myself to be single" forever before she and the boyband star crossed paths, Turner sweetly explained to Rolling Stone that she's sure Jonas is the one. According to the famous actress, "I think once you've found the right person, you just know."
That being said, let's take a look inside Sophie Turner's relationship with Joe Jonas.
Joe Jonas slid into Sophie Turner's DMs
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had several mutual friends who had been trying to set them up for a while — even Jonas' agent told Turner that he thought the two would hit it off — so, while the Jonas Brothers were on tour in the U.K., the pop star decided to take a chance and sent the actress a message on Instagram, asking her to meet (via Elle U.K.). Turner shared with Harper's Bazaar, "We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue."
Believe it or not, Jonas is not the first Jonas Brother to slide into the DMs of his future wife. Back in 2016, Nick Jonas told Vogue that he messaged his now-wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, on Twitter and said, "I'm hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet." We guess sliding into DMs runs in the family.
Sophie Turner didn't expect to like Joe Jonas
The first time Sophie Turner met her husband, Joe Jonas, she was so sure she wouldn't like the famous singer that she brought her "rugby boys" with her as backup (via Elle U.K.). After Jonas messaged Turner on Instagram, she explained to Elle U.K. that they decided to meet at a "local s***ty bar" in Camden, England, complete "with great music and people throwing up everywhere." The actress continued to share, "I expected him to show up with security and everything. I thought he would be such a d**k."
Luckily, the pair immediately hit it off and talked for hours. Turner then joined Jonas on tour, and a year later, on their first anniversary, they were engaged (via Elle U.K.). Although the engagement came quickly after they started dating, Jonas and Turner seem like a perfect fit, and they even have matching tattoos as proof (via The Sunday Times).
The actress says Joe Jonas 'saved my life'
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Sophie Turner explained that when she first met Joe Jonas at 20 years old, she was not at her best, confessing she was "very mentally unwell." According to Turner, Jonas told her that he couldn't be with her until she learned to love herself. Turner continued to tell the newspaper, "That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way."
Turner has continued to be a staunch advocate for mental health and has not shied away from talking about her experience in public, as she shared with Teen Vogue. Although the "Game of Thrones" star still struggles every now and then, she explained to The Sunday Times that having a partner like Jonas, who also has had over a decade of experience in the public eye, has been a great help, leading Turner to eagerly say, "Happiness has just trumped it all."

They once broke up for a day
Although it's become painfully normal for celebrity couples to have on-again-off-again romances, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas' one breakup only lasted for 24 hours. Sophie shared with The Sunday Times, "It was the worst day of our lives. For a second we both had cold feet, then 24 hours later we were both, like, 'Never mind.'"
Today, the couple seems happier than ever, and even Joe's baby brother, Nick Jonas, seems convinced that the actress and pop star duo will last forever. Nick couldn't help but gush to Entertainment Tonight after the pair announced their engagement, saying, "I can tell you that he found his partner and love of his life. That's all that matters. It's a beautiful thing." We sure hope the youngest Jonas is right — between Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's split and Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes' decision to part ways, we can't bear to see another celebrity breakup (via Us Weekly).
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had two weddings
Although Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had planned on getting married in the summer of 2019 during a romantic ceremony in France, they were simply so in love that they couldn't wait that long (via The Sunday Times). Instead, Turner explained to the newspaper that they shared vows at A Little Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, complete with an Elvis impersonator, DJ Diplo, and candy wedding rings. But don't worry, they still had their fairy-tale ceremony in the south of France because, why not?
Although the Provence wedding was relatively low-key, Turner couldn't help but share some stunning photos of the event on her Instagram, including a shot of her custom Louis Vuitton dress designed by Nicolas Ghesquière (via Vogue France). And, since we know you were wondering, yes, Diplo was also an attendee at this wedding ceremony and joked about having his phone confiscated after he live-streamed the entirety of the Vegas wedding (via Elle).
The couple has a seven-year age gap between them
Even though Joe Jonas is seven years older than Sophie Turner, she assures everyone that the rock star still keeps her on her toes. Turner shared with Harper's Bazaar, "He's the most fun, energetic, positive person I've ever seen. I'm pessimistic, so we balance each other out."
In fact, Jonas shared in an interview with GQ that he's been especially focused on health and wellness lately to feel and look his best, whether he's going on tour or filming a movie. The boyband superstar explained to the mag, "I've realized that I'm going 100 miles per hour every day, whether I'm working or not. To maintain that health and to feel good about myself mentally, physically, emotionally, a lot of these routines are going to get me through the day, the week, the month."
Thanks to all of his hard work, Jonas isn't afraid to post the occasional shirtless selfie on his Instagram story, and his wife is definitely not complaining. This past March, when her husband posted a thirst trap, Turner quickly reposted the picture on her Instagram story with the caption, "1-800-DIAL-A-DADDY" (via E! News). We love a supportive wife!
Sophie Turner loves the Taylor Swift song that's rumored to be about her husband
It's no secret that Sophie Turner is absolutely hilarious, and her reaction to Taylor Swift's song, "Mr. Perfectly Fine," is proof of her good sense of humor. The song is rumored to be about Swift and Joe Jonas' fleeting 2008 relationship, and it doesn't exactly paint Jonas in a positive light. But that didn't stop Turner from posting an Instagram story of her listening to the song with the caption, "It's not NOT a bop," to which Swift responded, "Forever bending the knee for the 👑 of the north" (via Cosmopolitan).
This isn't the first time the singer has been rumored to reference Jonas in a song. Apparently, as Bustle noted, the song "Invisible String" on Swift's eighth studio album "Folklore" includes a nod to Jonas and his baby (via Twitter). While Swift used to make digs about her ex-boyfriend's "well-pressed suit," it seems like, over a decade later, the two are on good terms, and Swift sings, "Now I send their babies presents" (via Genius).
The happy couple had a surprising hobby during quarantine
Everyone picked up some interesting new hobbies to keep themselves occupied during quarantine, and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were no different. Jonas shared with WSJ Magazine that he and the queen of the north "got very into lego building." Jonas added, "My wife and I probably built 10 monstrous Legos. It was quite funny because I was super focused on helping her but then I was getting easily distracted and playing Fortnite."
When they weren't busy making the Batmobile or recreating Harry Potter Wizarding World, Turner shared with Conan O'Brien on "Conan at Home" that her husband had taken up DJing on Instagram Live during quarantine and, to support him, Turner "pour[ed] him his drinks." Laughing, Turner said, "He'll like text me and be like, 'What time is it?' and then I'll reply from the kitchen, 'Shot time' and bring him a shot of tequila." If that doesn't sound like the perfect quarantine setup, we don't know what does.
Becoming parents has made Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas closer than ever
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas welcomed their daughter, Willa, into the world in July 2020, and it seems like being parents has made their bond stronger than ever before. An inside source shared to Hollywood Life that Jonas is "in awe of how amazing his wife is. He feels like he really hit the jackpot because she's handled everything so well."
Jonas continued to gush about his wife and daughter during an interview with "CBS This Morning," where he called Willa "gorgeous." Jonas continued to say that he enjoyed his time in quarantine because it was an opportunity "to be in one place for a solid amount of time and just have my feet on the ground and be with my immediate family." We hope that little Willa appreciated all of the quality time she got to spend with mom and dad as well, because few parents are as cool as hers.
Sophie Turner isn't afraid to roast Joe Jonas
If you've seen the "Jonas Brothers Family Roast" comedy special on Netflix, then you probably remember Sophie Turner's stellar performance where she was not afraid to go after her husband, Joe Jonas, and make some hilariously crude jokes about Jonas' purity ring from his teen years (via Cosmopolitan).
This isn't the first time Turner has made a dig at her husband, but, luckily, Jonas always seems to take the heat in good fun. In a filmed interview with BuzzFeed during the press tour for "X Men: Dark Phoenix," Turner is seen holding two adorable puppies when one of them tries to crawl inside her blazer. As the queen of the north (and of one-liners), Turner laughed and said to the puppy, "You know what, you remind me of my husband." Christian Zamora later shared the interview on Twitter and said, "Your wife called you out, @joejonas," to which Jonas replied with a winking emoji.
Sophie Turner loves the 'sense of security' that marriage provides
With such an unpredictable career and schedule, it makes sense why Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were so eager to settle down. In an interview with Elle U.K., Turner shared that she really cherishes the "sense of security" that comes with married life, saying, "I love being married. I think it's wonderful. I'm sure we'll have our hiccups, but right now the security and the safety are everything."
Turner's views on security and safety also speak to her thoughts on privacy when it comes to her marriage. The actress explained to Net-A-Porter that if her friend, DJ Diplo, hadn't live-streamed their Las Vegas wedding, she and Jonas most likely would have kept the event a secret for a while. According to Turner, "Marriage is a private thing between two people and I think that's how it should always be." Although we respect Turner's commitment to privacy, we can't say that we're not thankful for Diplo's decision to live-stream the wedding for all of us "Jophie" fans to swoon over.
The new mom is close with Joe Jonas' family
Sophie Turner and the rest of the Jonas Brothers' wives (also known as the "J Sisters") are reportedly just as close as the three brothers themselves (via Refinery29). Sophie explained to Elle U.K. that she, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Danielle Jonas have such a tight-knit bond because Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Kevin Jonas are all "best friends." In fact, Sophie and Joe only live 10 minutes away from Nick and Priyanka (via Elle U.K.).
We can't imagine a cooler group of sisters-in-law than these three, whether they're supporting their husbands onstage or having dinner together at a family gathering. Sophie even sweetly shared with Elle U.K., "It's also nice to have built-in friends. They are actually really cool, and I can hang out with them. We can talk to each other about how crazy the boys' lives are — we can relate on so many different things," before commenting "because you never know about your in-laws." Oh, we hear you on that!
