General Hospital Characters You'd Hate To Know In Real Life
There are some soap opera characters that you love to hate. They entertain you. They make you laugh. They surprise you, and you never know what they are going to do next. However, you do know you'd never want to be friends with these people because they would be nothing but horrible to you. Then, there are also soap opera characters who you just hate and don't even love to hate. Everything about the character irks you, and there is no way you'd want to ever be around that character in real life.
"General Hospital" has both of those character types — the villains who keep you glued to the screen and who you want to steer clear of in real life, as well as the characters who rub you the wrong way while also doing horrific things to other characters in Port Charles. From Cesar Faison and his spawn to a pair of Cassadines, see which "GH" characters you probably hate to know in the real world.
Cesar Faison and Peter August give fans the creeps
Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) first appeared on the Port Charles scene in the 1990s as an agent for the evil spy agency, the DVX. As detailed by Soaps In Depth, viewers soon learned he had an obsession with heroine Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and was responsible for the character's presumed death. Cesar was also presumed dead for many years but eventually returned to "General Hospital" wearing a prosthetic mask that made him look like Anna's lost love, Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan). After torturing Anna off and on for the next few years, the incredibly creepy villain, who would kill anyone who would get in his way, finally died from Huntington's Disease in 2018, but not before firing the fatal shot that killed his son, Nathan (Ryan Paevey).
Then there is Cesar's other son, Peter August, a character universally hated by the "General Hospital" fandom. The soap made a mistake when it introduced the character as the long lost son of Cesar Faison and Anna Devane, when it was never in Anna's character to sleep with Cesar and give birth to his child (via Soaps In Depth). "GH" eventually changed that story and made Peter's mother Anna's identical twin, Alex.
By then, the character was too far gone and had been turned into a cartoon villain rather than a compelling villain who averts death over and over again no matter how many times he is shot at, stabbed, poisoned, or is forced to jump off cliffs (via Soaps.com).
Carly Corinthos is loved and hated, but you wouldn't want to be friends with her
Carly Corinthos (currently played by Laura Wright) arrived in Port Charles with a chip on her shoulder and was first played by Sarah Joy Brown in 1996. Viewers eventually learned she was the long lost daughter of nurse Bobbie Spencer Jones (Jacklyn Zeman), given up at birth. Carly — aka Caroline Benson — got her revenge on Bobbie by sleeping with her husband, Tony (Brad Maule), while also sleeping with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Jason's brother, A.J. Quartermaine (Billy Warlock). Of course, Carly became pregnant, tried to pass the baby off as Tony's, then told everyone Jason was the father, when in reality A.J. fathered her baby, Michael (via Soaps In Depth).
Through the years, Carly has somewhat mellowed, married mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) several times, had three more children, covered up murders, blackmailed many, and will always go after anyone she perceives as an enemy. Some fans find her to be a heroine, some find her to be a shrill villain, but she is always entertaining even if you know she'd make your life miserable if you ever did anything she deemed not in her interest.
Nikolas and Victor Cassadine cause trouble all over General Hospital
Longtime "General Hospital" fans really want to like Nikolas Cassadine as he is the son of the show's premiere heroine, Laura Collins (Genie Francis), but he definitely has done some terrible things. Hiring someone to shoot Hayden Barnes in the head and then letting someone else rot in jail for the crime for five years is one of the first things that comes to mind (via Soaps In Depth). He also faked his own death for years, depriving his son of a father for selfish reasons. In 2021, viewers learned he knew for years that his villainous uncle, Victor Cassadine, was alive (via Soap Hub) and told nobody as Victor (Charles Shaughnessy) kidnapped and killed on his behalf.
As for Victor Cassadine, he tried to freeze the world with a weather machine back in 1981 when the character was first introduced to the show, and he's been causing trouble on and off ever since, most recently kidnapping Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) and teaming up with Peter August to keep Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) prisoner. You definitely would hate these characters in real life (via Soaps In Depth).
Cyrus Renaualt is a villain with no redeeming qualities
Mobster Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) was only introduced to the "General Hospital" scene in 2020 and since then, he has done nothing but cause trouble. He doesn't care who he kills with bombs, guns, and illicit drugs. If it benefits him, he will walk all over everyone in his path. As Soaps In Depth details, he even kidnapped teenagers the night of their big dance just because he could and shot Marcus Taggert (Real Andrews). When he got Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) hooked on drugs and didn't care that it almost killed her, the creep factor was off the charts.
For a brief few weeks, Cyrus seemed to show a spark of humanity when his mother was introduced to the show and living in a nursing home, but that humanity quickly slipped away when he kidnapped his own sister, Laura, held her at gunpoint and then shot Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) straight in the chest, as per Soap Dirt. While the character can be fascinating to watch and definitely entertains, you'd certainly steer clear of him in real life.
