Here's What Halsey Looks Like Going Makeup-Free
Ever since she first burst onto the scene, Halsey has been known for regularly shaking up their style. From changing their hair to experimenting with makeup and fashion, we never know what we're going to get with the New Jersey-born singer-songwriter — and that's precisely why we love them. As Forbes reported, in January 2021, Halsey released their very first makeup collection, About-Face. Rather than targeting insecurities, however, Halsey's line sought to make users feel more beautiful by emphasizing their features. In a 2018 interview with Allure, the "You Should Be Sad" hit-maker explained she stopped using a professional makeup artist after realizing that feeling like herself was more important.
Halsey reasoned, "As a musician, I'm just myself every day. I can't have someone who doesn't know me coming on board and changing my face. I'm singing songs that are personal, from the bottom of my heart. My fans need to recognize the person singing to them, you know?" Likewise, the outspoken star doesn't feel like she needs to trowel makeup on either but prefers a simpler makeup routine, arguing it's better "to play up my existing beauty rather than trying to change what my face looks like." Although she's known for going big onstage, in particular, in their normal life Halsey is often spotted running errands without a stitch of product on.
Halsey is a major proponent of natural beauty
In contrast to many other celebrities, who look outraged to be caught without their faces on, Halsey seems perfectly happy to be snapped with their natural beauty on display. Although she's hiding under a baseball cap, Halsey's big smile suggests she's proud of showing off her skin, and rightly so, since evidently the singer-songwriter takes excellent care of it. While chatting to Byrdie in 2021, Halsey railed against Instagram filters, arguing, "It's gotta be damaging to your brain to constantly be looking at yourself through an altered lens and being disappointed with what your face actually looks like." In fact, the pop star admitted she was forced to accept their natural appearance after contending with unflattering paparazzi photos.
Halsey explained, "I can't control the angle. I can't control the lighting. I can't control if it's my good side or my bad side." As a result, Halsey had to accept what they really looked like underneath the glamour of their job. Hence why About-Face is all about accentuating your natural beauty, rather than hiding your perceived flaws.
In fact, as Halsey, who's been known to change their whole look on a whim, shared, "I have a pretty good idea of what my 'prettiest' look is, by social standards, but it doesn't mean it's what I want to look like. I definitely don't think that my most 'Hollywood' look is when I have a bald head, but it's when I feel the most confident."
