The Truth About 90 Day Fiancé's Sojaboy

Reality TV as a whole is all about shocking, interesting, and entertaining characters being their most amplified selves on camera. Each show produces its own iconic heroes and villains. But, no reality TV show has quite produced as many unusually iconic personalities as TLC's "90 Day Fiancé". What began as a simple concept of following along the lives of a select few Americans that have chosen to marry people they met online, has spiraled into a multi-franchise, huge fanbase, addictive show that people can't get enough (via TLC).

Sure, the Americans setting themselves up to marry strangers they met online have been odd and entertaining characters themselves (lest we forget the infamous Big Ed), but without fail every season manages to produce a slew of brand new international cast members that manage to go viral within a mere few episodes (via Suggest). Anyone that's either a fan of the show or spends a good amount of time on social media probably already has a couple of people coming to mind as you read this, and we can bet that Usman "Sojaboy" Umar is one of them.

Crank that Sojaboy?

While his name may throw you off, Usman Umar is in fact not the popular rapper Soulja Boy — he's merely a Nigerian rendition. In fact, Umar fully denies any rumors or suspicion that his name was inspired by the rapper, instead he claims, "His name is like soul, like, S-O-U-L. It's soul for the heart, mine is soldier for the military" (via Screen Rant).

Umar joined the cast of "90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days" in Season 4 when fans were first introduced to the Nigerian native musician (via Screen Rant). He came onto the scene as a 29-year-old that claimed to be a hip hop sensation in Nigeria. However, fellow reality TV star Dr. Wendy Osefo has actually called him out for faking his fame, claiming that, "Nobody knows him. He's doing what we in Nigeria like to call 4-1-9. That means he's faking" (via Showbiz Cheat Sheet). But was the singer also faking his reasons for appearing on the show?

When Sojaboy met Babygirl Lisa

Sure, Usman "Sojaboy" Umar's hit song dedicated to his wife "I Love You" may have been catchy and gotten stuck in just about anyone's head that watched a single episode of "90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days" Season 4, but his music career isn't what made him an internet sensation. It was his relationship with the one and only Lisa Hamme, or as he (and now everyone in the world) prefers to call her "Babygirl Lisa" (via In Touch Weekly).

With a 20-year-age difference, the couple's greatest battle wasn't age, but 52-year-old Hamme's extreme jealousy (via Screen Rant). The couple argued endlessly during Hamme's trip to Nigeria, they clashed repeatedly, and as with many "90 Day Fiancé" relationships, fans spent the entire time watching in shock at how obvious it was that Umar was only with her for a green card. While the duo insisted they were loved up regardless, things took a turn shortly after the show concluded.

No more baby love

As quickly as their relationship began, it ended. On December 21, 2020 the couple announced that they were in the depths of a messy divorce (via Us Weekly). Sojaboy openly shared how difficult Lisa Hamme was being, saying, "My lawyer called her so that she can explain why or complain [about] the divorce, but she yelled at him and cut the call. After that, she call on Zoom to lie to people as usually as she does."

Meanwhile, Hamme insisted that Umar was using her the entire time for fame, and she shared on during an Instagram Live, "He used me. He married me just to be on a TV show that people would recognize his name to sell his music ... He thinks it's just him, he thinks he's going to do what he wants and he's never going to apologize for anything he's ever said bad about me" (via E!).

While fans figured this was the perfect messy cherry on top of a classical "90 Day Fiancé" sundae, it turns out Sojaboy wasn't leaving our TV screens quite yet.

'King Africa' is back for more

Isn't that just the beauty of every "90 Day Fiancé" character? The fact that no matter what, they make sure to never quite learn their lesson and always come back for more mess — and we love them for it. After seemingly focusing on his rap career and releasing his EP "King Africa" after the public divorce, it appears Sojaboy was up to a lot more than music (via Screen Rant).

That's right, the promo for Season 5 of "90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days" revealed that Umar will be back on December 12th, 2021 with a brand new lady but the same story (via Distractify). Kimberley Dawn makes her "90 Day Fiancé" debut as Umar's new leading lady. This time, he's downgraded from a 21 year age gap to an 18 year one, with Dawn being 50 years old (via Screen Rant).

Umar has spoken about his love for his new girlfriend, sharing, "Her loyalty is [the] number one thing that nobody would question, I don't think there's any way you can find somebody that's so loyal like Kimberly." While Dawn has openly shared her love for him along with her willingness to allow him to have multiple wives, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a story that's likely to rival the Babygirl Lisa era (via In Touch Weekly).
