Meghan McCain Lashes Out Over The Fox News Christmas Tree Scandal
The 50-foot Christmas tree in front of Fox News was set ablaze early on the morning of Dec. 8, 2021, and Meghan McCain's response to the situation is causing quite a stir.
According to Gothamist, 49-year-old Craig Tamanaha climbed the tree — which was lit up on Dec. 5 and was featured in a Fox News Christmas special — and set it on fire around 12:15 a.m. Thankfully, the fire was put out without any injuries, and Tamanaha was charged with criminal mischief, criminal nuisance, criminal trespass, criminal tampering, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment.
In a tweet that has now been deleted, McCain said (via Yahoo!), "I don't want to hear anything about how radical some of you believe Republicans to be when there are lunatics running around New York City setting Fox News Christmas tree on fire." Her response has seemed to have created more of a buzz than the news of the fire itself.
In particular, many on Twitter are wondering how a fake tree being set on fire could compare to the Capitol riot.
Meghan McCain's response to the Fox News fire has led to many more tweets on the situation
Since the incident with the Fox News Christmas tree and Meghan McCain's tweet on the situation, many have shared their own thoughts online.
"Arson is bad. Insurrection is worse. Meghan McCain is a moron. All 3 of these things are true," read one social media post. "Fox News' Christmas tree is on fire if you were wondering what Kamala will be blamed for tomorrow," said another on Twitter.
Some of the thoughts, of course, focused on the arson, which could have led to much more damage. "Our beautiful Christmas tree on fox square was set on fire last night. What a sad day," wrote Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean.
And some focused on how people were celebrating the arson, which also can cause damage — just in a different way. "I'm kinda sad to see so many celebrating the burning of the Fox tree. I despise Fox," read one tweet. "But I will not celebrate vandalism and arson. This kind of crap isn't helpful. It's just ammunition for the GOP."
