Ted Cruz Just Diagnosed Liz Cheney With This 'Syndrome'
Of all the members of the U.S. Senate Republican Conference, no one attracts criticism from fellow lawmakers like Texas Senator Ted Cruz. And as the BBC has pointed out, some of the most biting criticism has come from members of his own party.
Consider the comments that some of his fellow GOP lawmakers have leveled against him: The late Arizona senator John McCain once referred to him as a "wacko bird ... that get[s] the media megaphone." And former John Boehner went on the record to say about Cruz (via NPR), "I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b***h in my life."
South Carolina's Lindsey Graham once remarked that "If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you," while former President George W Bush simply said: "I just don't like the guy." Another person who doesn't seem to be a fan of Ted Cruz? Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney.
Ted Cruz says Liz Cheney has "Trump Derangement Syndrome"
Texas Senator Ted Cruz's lack of popularity among his Republican party mates could be explained by a supreme lack of tact served with an extra helping of self-confidence. That was evident on Fox News when he tried to take down Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney during a November 16 interview with Sean Hannity.
Cruz said to Hannity: "I look at the situation of Liz Cheney and I just think it's sad. I've always liked her, I haven't agreed with her on everything, I think she's a bit too eager to send in the Marines and to invade countries all over the planet, but I've always liked her and I think she falls into the category of people who Donald Trump just broke, just shattered" (via Mediaite).
And because he wasn't done, Cruz added: "She hates Donald Trump so much that it just has overridden everything in her system," he continued. "She's lashing out at Trump and Republicans and everything, and she's become a Democrat and it's sad to watch what has happened. It is Trump Derangement Syndrome."
Liz Cheney had this to say to Ted Cruz
It didn't take Liz Cheney too long to deliver a comeback for Ted Cruz, which she did on Fox's rival network CNN, saying on November 17 (via Insider): "Trump broke Ted Cruz. A real man would be defending his wife, and his father, and the Constitution."
While Ted Cruz has proclaimed his loyalty to former President Donald Trump, the former president hasn't had anything nice things to say about his acolyte. Trump once called Cruz "a nasty guy" and pointed out: "Nobody likes him. Nobody in Congress likes him. Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him" (via BBC).
Trump has nothing good to say about Cruz's wife, Heidi, or his father, either. When Trump was running against Cruz in 2016, Trump also threw insults at Heidi by comparing her to Melania Trump in a tweet that showed an image of both women with the caption, "No need to 'spill the beans.' The images are worth a thousand words." Trump even accused Cruz's father of being in cahoots with late President John F. Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.
Social media delighted in helping Cheney put Cruz in his place by sharing memes that demonstrated the depth of his loyalty to the former president. As one Twitter user put it: "I don't like agreeing with Cheney, but we can all be bipartisan now and again."
