Why Being A Betty White Fan Could Seriously Pay Off On Her 100th Birthday
If you're struggling to think of who America's sweetheart is, look no further than Betty White. Often described as the "First Lady of Television," the actor has worked in the industry for over eight decades and was even honored with a Guinness World Record in 2014 for the longest TV career for a female entertainer.
Best known for her role as Rose Nylund on "The Golden Girls", Sue Ann Nivens on the "Mary Tyler Moore Show", and her iconic, scene-stealing portrayal of Grandma Annie in "The Proposal", White has over 100 actings credits to her name (via IMDb). And speaking of that number, she'll soon be celebrating her 100th birthday!
While it's unclear exactly who White will be inviting to mark her transformation into the "very exclusive club of centenarians", as a Medium contributor noted, fans will be able to celebrate the occasion in a unique way. Thanks to a contest put together by insurer Choice Mutual, one lucky fan will receive $1,000 ... but only if they complete a major marathon of White's work.
Prepare to prove that you're the biggest Betty White fan
To celebrate Betty White's birthday, which is on January 17, Choice Mutual is looking for a special fan to hire who's willing to watch ten hours worth of shows and films featuring White — for $1,000. This challenge certainly isn't for the faint-hearted, and Choice Mutual is specifically looking for someone "who adores Betty White" and is most likely "already planning to binge 10 hours of her classics, but now they get paid to do it!"
The criteria to apply for this job is simple enough. If hired, you'll be allocated 24 hours to watch ten hours "of pre-selected Betty White film and TV appearances" according to the Choice Mutual, who will also provide a DVD player and "curated selection" of Betty White DVDs to complete the job. To fully complete the task, you'll "need to document your experience on social media as you watch so friends and family can celebrate" as well.
All you have to do is prove that you're a fan of White and fill out the application form by November 22. For "extra points", you can attach a video "explaining why you love Betty White". If hired, you'll be notified by email or letter within two weeks of the closing date.
