What It Means When You Dream About Getting A Divorce
Correction 11/22/2022: A previous version of this article stated the divorce rate in the US was 2.7 for every 1,000 couples. Per the current CDC information, the divorce rate in the US is 2.3 for every 1,000 couples.
When you dream about someone, your subconscious may be helping you realize you have feelings for them, or perhaps there's something you need to fix between the two of you. In either case, it's important to understand your dreams. They can change your life if you decode them, but determining their precise meanings can be hard, too.
The same can be said for dreaming about someone who has died or dreaming about falling in love. These dreams are rooted in interpersonal connections and could mean you're missing someone, lovesick, and more. Unfortunately, sad circumstances can enhance our dreams in strange ways, which applies to divorce, too.
According to the CDC, there are 2.3 divorces per every 1,000 people. By contrast, there are 6.1 marriages per every 1,000 people per year, making the divorce rate between one-third and one-half of the marriage rate. Because of this, divorce no doubt penetrates people's dreams, too. But just what does it mean when this happens?
Dreams about divorce may not mean you're getting divorced in the future
Dreaming about divorce can be unsettling. But if you know what it means, you can handle it better. According to Best Life, dreaming about divorce doesn't actually mean you're headed for the courthouse. Instead, it could mean your schedule is too busy or that you need a break. Rather than representing your relationship, the dream could mean you're divorced from reality because of work or whatever else is keeping you busy. "You are trying to balance your commitments and honor the promises you have made to other people. It can be difficult to service all these obligations and it can become very easy for you to start to feel out of balance," explains psychologist Ian Wallace in his book "The Top 100 Dreams: The Dreams That We All Have and What They Really Mean."
Moreover, Times Now News adds that dreaming about divorce could mean you fear feeling lonely. Perhaps you feel scared about the future and are divorced from the idea of new opportunities because you love your everyday routines.
When thinking about divorce dreams, consider what in your life is currently bothering you. There could be a feeling of divorce present without a marital divorce imminent. Of course, divorce is necessary for some marriages and could be at the root of your dream, but don't take these dreams as inherently meaning you're headed for a divorce.
