Sing On! Season 2 - Details We Know So Far
"Sing On!" is a new, high energy, karaoke-style singing competition series on Netflix hosted by the charismatic Tituss Burgess (via Netflix). Season 1 of "Sing On!" delighted its audience of music lovers with its upbeat tempo and unrelenting competitiveness of six non-professional vocalists trying to out-sing each other during a chart-topping hit (via The Cinemaholic).
This show differs from other singing competitions by using a vocal analyzing machine to sense the accuracy of each participant's singing pitch. Burgess explains in the official "Sing On!" trailer that the vocal analyzing machine adds money to the grand prize with every accurate note sung by the participants and takes the place of judges, helping to pinpoint the most accurate singer. Fans may or may not like the twist to this singing competition, in which the contestants must vote each other off.
The freshman season of "Sing On!" premiered September 16, 2020 on Netflix in its usual binge-worthy fashion with eight episodes of approximately 35-40 minutes each. Two more "Sing On!" Netflix editions out of Germany and Spain also premiered, both which The Cinemaholic reported to be successful. As for the American "Sing On!" edition, read on to get the Season 2 details.
When will Sing On! Season 2 be released?
The Cinemaholic reports that Netflix has not yet announced a Season 2 for "Sing On!," but there is also no cancellation notice. If the show proves to be popular enough by Netflix's standards, Next Season TV shares that Season 2 may be released in late 2021 or 2022.
Vanity Fair suggests that "Sing On!" is more of an entertaining TV show rather than a singing competition, and that the entire appeal is the uninhibited bar-like karaoke singing that has the audience engaged, singing along, and eager for more. Each fan will have their favorite participant, whether they can hold a tune or not, and the competitive nature of both the contestants and the audience is what keeps the show going.
The question remains — will the entertainment factor be enough to get "Sing On!" renewed for a Season 2? If we go by the IMDb user ratings, the show received an average of 6.3 out of 10 stars, not a terrible nor a fantastic score. It looks like karaoke fans will have to wait a little longer for a "Sing On!" Season 2 confirmation.
Who will be in the cast for Sing On! Season 2?
Season 1 of "Sing On!" focused on six hopeful singers of different backgrounds, with unique voices. You can watch all eight episodes of "Sing On!" on Netflix to get a sense of what another season's cast may look and sound like. Unfortunately, there is no information regarding a Season 2 "Sing On!" cast just yet.
The host of Season 1, Tituss Burgess, does steal the show from time to time and will (hopefully) be back for a Season 2 of "Sing On!" Of course, all we can do at this moment is speculate. In addition to being a fabulous host, Burgess is an impressive five-time Emmy nominated actor as well as a talented singer, having performed in multiple Broadway musicals (via The Cinemaholic).
"Sing On!" Season 1 contestants Frankie Cena, John Osbourne, and Elise Harpe recall the adoration that the cast of Season 1 had for Burgess on Cena's YouTube channel. Elise gushed over Burgess, saying he was "the sweetest ... He was so kind" while the others agreed. It will be nice to see Burgess and the cast connect in a Season 2 as well.
New details about Sing On! Season 2?
Tonight's TV reports that as of now, there is still no word on whether or not "Sing On!" will be renewed for a Season 2, but this doesn't mean the show has been cancelled. Netflix hasn't released any announcements on "Sing On!," or its other editions, "Sing On! Spain" and "Sing On! Germany."
Slate reports that the show is "fun enough" but misses the mark of making it feel like a true karaoke night, and often feels like more of a video game. Whether or not the head honchos at Netflix see it this way may just determine the fate of the show, but again, we just have to sit back and wait.
This past August, the Miami Herald reported that Netflix did announce that they were looking for reality stars in its largest casting call to date. Although, "Sing On!" did not make the list for the casting calls of the Netflix unscripted shows, but without any concrete information, we still aren't ruling out a Season 2.
