How To Get Rid Of Hickeys
It's sort of a rite of passage to get a hickey. Similar to going through puberty or having your first kiss, getting a hickey is almost a necessary experience of being a teenager. Just look at the show "Big Mouth" where a group of young preteens experiences the challenges of puberty, including — ahem — getting hickeys (via Esquire).
And, though getting a hickey is necessary as a teenager, adults still get them too. Imagine having a good time with your partner and waking up with a bruise on your neck. What would your boss think? Obviously, you have to get rid of the incriminating evidence, but how do you do that?
Well, a good first step is to apply a cold compress — a towel or spoon — to the blemish immediately (via Cosmopolitan). And, the compress has to be cold cold, like the spoon in the freezer for a couple of minutes before placing it on your hickey. That way, the blood vessels in the hickey will be minimized.
If that doesn't work, Healthline recommends some aloe vera. This natural plant will reduce inflammation and overall, clear the hickey rapidly. But what are other ways to make hickeys disappear?
There are a few ways to get rid of hickeys
Not only are there commercial products like eyedrops and makeup to get rid of hickeys, but there are also a variety of natural treatments.
Aside from aloe vera, the best natural product is coconut butter, according to Healthline. Cocoa butter is often used for several skin treatments, so it could help heal a hickey. Another option is to apply the butter, but don't press the butter on the skin too hard as it could increase the bruising.
A quick trick to getting rid of this blemish is a pineapple. "Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain that helps with bruising," said Mona Gohara, a dermatologist and professor at Yale University. "Eating fresh pineapple, if possible, is most effective," she adds, per Cosmopolitan. What better way to get rid of your bruise than eating one of the best fruits? (Okay, we're a bit biased when it comes to pineapple over here.)
If none of these solutions clear up your blemish within a few days, it looks like the next best thing is to grab a beauty blender, some concealer, and setting powder. Not the ideal solution, but it'll cover it up.
