What We Know About The Funeral Plans For Brian Laundrie
After law enforcement found Brian Laundrie's belongings and remains in a nature preserve in North Port, Florida, the question of a funeral began to brew. The Independent reported that the Laundrie family met this Sunday to grieve. However, according to the family lawyer Steven Bertolino, there are no plans for a funeral.
Many people were not surprised by the news, as Laundrie's remains were reported as being skeletal, via USA Today. The lack of a funeral may also be because the family will not have the remains for some time. "No manner or cause of death was determined, and the remains were sent to an anthropologist for further evaluation," Bertolino told People.
Though the Laundrie family has been the subject of intense scrutiny and criticism with protestors questioning why they remained silent throughout the search for Gabby Petito, the family has still received some condolences (via Fox 13 News). A video posted on Twitter showed local florists recently delivering flowers to the family home, with one florist simply saying, "it's sad."
Brian Laundrie was upset the day he left his Florida home
Lawyer Steven Bertolino also revealed to People that Brian Laundrie was visibly "upset" when he left his family's home in Florida for the last time. "Yes, Brian was upset when he left and he was not able to be persuaded not to leave the house," Bertolino said.
Laundrie's parents originally said they last saw their son on September 14 of this year, though they later changed it to a day earlier, on September 13. "Upon further communication with the FBI and confirmation of the Mustang being at the Laundrie residence on Wednesday September 15, we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday, September 13," Bertolino said, via Khon 2 News.
Laundrie's parents officially reported their son missing on September 17, according to Wane. They told authorities that he was headed to the Carlton Reserve area for a hike. Initial searches came up empty, and Laundrie's remains weren't found until October 21. This was likely because the area in which his remains were found was previously underwater, per NBC News.
