Did Prince William Mention Harry During The Reception For Diana's Statue Donors?
Prince William's relationship with his younger brother, Prince Harry, has been making headlines for the past two years. It's been reported numerous times that the siblings have a rift between them for many reasons, including Harry's exit from the royal family with his wife Meghan Markle, as well as Harry and Meghan's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. However, in July, the brothers banded together to honor their late mother, Princess Diana, with the unveiling of a statue at Kensington Palace (via Us Weekly).
"Today, on what would have been our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better," the brothers said in a joint statement at the time (via BBC). "Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy."
The ceremony was kept intimate with only Diana's closest family members in attendance. However, the time together reportedly did the brothers good. "William and Harry spent the morning before the statue unveiling looking through old keepsakes, notes from Diana and bonding. They have absolutely turned a new page in their relationship and have started the healing. Everyone around them was thrilled to see how close they were on the day of the statue unveiling," a source told the outlet.
This week, William was back at the statue speaking for both he and Harry.
Prince William spoke for himself and Harry at the event
Although Princess Diana's statue was officially unveiled back in July, Prince William held a special reception at Kensington Palace this week to thank all of the donors, as well as her friends. Although many of Diana's loved ones were in attendance, Prince Harry did not return home for the event. "It was very intimate and sweet," a source told The Sun. The insider also revealed that there was a feeling of family and love in the air at the reception due to all those in attendance. "There was a real family feel as many of Diana's 17 godchildren were also there.
During the event, William spoke publicly to his guests to thank them for their love and support, and even though Harry was unable to make the trip to the UK for the ceremony, William spoke for both he and his younger brother. "William made a brilliant speech saying thank you from him and Harry and how happy they both were with the statue," the source revealed. "He mentioned Harry by name. The brothers are barely on speaking terms but it's clear the Princess Di statue has done some good," the insider added.
Only time will tell if William and Harry will ever officially mend fences. However, for now, fans are just happy whenever they appear to be united in their thoughts and feelings.
