A Closer Look At Kourtney Kardashian's Engagement Ring
Ever since Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker officially revealed they were dating in January 2021, they haven't been shy about sharing details of their relationship on social media. The couple — who has known each other for years — has posted photos of themselves packing on the PDA, along with pictures of trips to Disneyland with their children. Kardashian even inspired Barker to take his first plane ride since his near-fatal accident in 2008, and the two have jetted off to Mexico and Italy together (via Us Weekly).
"It's still something very new to me, but having something that gives me the strength and hope to be able to overcome things that were so traumatic in my life, it just says a ton," Barker told Nylon. "She's definitely that for me. I'm invincible when I'm with her. It's just like I never dreamed, I never even considered flying again."
And it seems like everyone around the couple have been rooting for them to take the next step. Barker's daughter, Alabama, even referred to Kardashian as her stepmom during an Instagram Live session in July 2021. "Kourtney and Travis have a long, long history and years of friendship," a source told People. "They've felt like family for years, and she's really close with Alabama, who's just a cool rock star kid." So it was no surprise (to anyone but Kourtney!) when Barker popped the question in October 2021 with a stunning engagement ring.
How expensive was Kourtney Kardashian's engagement ring?
Kourtney Kardashian revealed her engagement to Travis Barker on Instagram, with a sweet photo of the proposal and the simple caption, "forever." The drummer got down on one knee at Rosewood Miramar Beach Hotel in Santa Barbara, California, popping the question with an engagement ring boasting an oval stone "set in a skinny platinum solitaire style with a pave diamond band," Olivia Landau, a certified gemologist, told PureWow.
Although Landau was only able to see the ring in an online photo, she estimated that it is approximately 8-10 carats and worth between $350,000 and $650,000, per PureWow. Meanwhile, Page Six estimated a potentially much higher value of $1 million.
Family and friends quickly took to social media to congratulate the couple. "So happy for you guys. I love both!" Barker's daughter, Alabama, wrote on her Instagram stories, while his son, Landon, also posted to his Instagram stories, "Congratulations @kourtneykardash and @travisbarker I'm so happy for you guys love you guys so much!" (via People). And a source told Entertainment Tonight that "Kourtney and Travis are over the moon. Getting engaged was always their natural next step and they are so thrilled. The proposal was gorgeous and romantic, and everything Kourtney wanted."
Travis Barker was involved in the ring's design
When it came to picking out the perfect engagement ring for Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker wasn't leaving anything to chance. The ring's designer, Lorraine Schwartz, revealed that the drummer played a major role in creating the piece. "I worked on it with Travis and he was a really big part of it," she told People. "He was really hands-on in the whole making of it. It's gorgeous and they're happy." This isn't the first ring that Schwartz has designed for a member of the Kardashian clan. She also created the engagement rings Kim Kardashian received from both Kris Humphries and Kanye West.
Barker worked hard to ensure that the proposal had special meaning for both him and Kardashian, who was "completely" surprised that her boyfriend of one year popped the question. "Travis told her family that he planned to propose, but everyone was great at keeping it secret," a source revealed to People. "The Rosewood is their favorite for short weekend getaways. They often stay at the hotel. This is why Travis proposed there. It's a very special place to them, but it was also easier to keep everything a secret by proposing there."
Their families were there to witness the proposal
Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian have known each other for years, and their families are close. So it makes sense that Barker made their families a big part of his proposal. "Since this is Kourtney's first engagement, it's of course a big deal," a source told People. "Most of her family was there to celebrate. Two of Travis' kids were there too. They enjoyed a private, family dinner at the hotel."
The couple have made it a priority to get close with one another's children. Kardashian shares three kids – Mason, Penelope, and Reign — with ex-boyfriend Scott Disick, while Barker has a stepdaughter Atiana, son Landon, and daughter Alabama with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler. Barker has even talked about teaching Penelope how to play drums. "You can't be pushy, but you're like, 'Oh, do you want to learn to play something?'" Travis explained to Nylon. "And she's always bright-eyed and like, 'Yes, like I'm so excited to learn how to play.' So she caught on really quick, like super quick."
For her part, Kardashian has bonded with Barker's kids. "His 15-year-old daughter, Alabama, loves Kourtney. [Alabama] follows her on social media and loves her style," a source told Life & Style. "His 17-year-old son, Landon, is just happy that his dad is dating."
