16 And Pregnant Season 7 - Details We Know So Far

"16 and Pregnant" has been a hit on MTV since it debuted back in 2009. While the show set out with intentions to show the real-life implications of having a child while still in high school, many have questioned if the show has lowered teenage pregnancy rates, or promoted the idea that if you get pregnant at 16, you can be on television. Many studies have been conducted to see if the show does anything at all to lower teenage pregnancy rates (via Brookings).

According to CNN, "16 and Pregnant" did play a role in lowering the rate of teenage pregnancy. Bill Albert, the chief program officer at National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unwanted Pregnancy said, "I think the takeaway here is that media can be, and often is, a force for good." He adds, "We have always viewed these particular shows as sex education for the 21st century."

While some argue the show has glamorized teen pregnancy, there is data to support it has had a more positive impact in lowering teenage birth rates. Being that the show is both impactful and popular, it is no surprise it will likely return for a 7th season.

There is no release date for season 7 yet

The sixth season of "16 and Pregnant" aired in March of 2021 (via Showbiz Cheat Sheet). Before that, the show had been on hiatus and was rebooted in the fall of 2020. Given that track record, it is likely fans of the show can expect an announcement regarding the 7th season soon.

While there has been no confirmation that the 7th season has been ordered by the television network, there is a lot of evidence to support the show's return. According to TV Show's Ace, the 6th season of the show saw high ratings, leading many to believe a 7th season is on the horizon.

However, it's important to note that the latest run of "16 and Pregnant" was marketed as a limited series. So, there is a possibility that it will not return. That seems unlikely, as the show was met with much support from fans. COVID-19 restrictions likely got in the way of filming and that is why fans have no answers regarding one of their favorite shows just yet.

The cast has yet to be confirmed

One of the most controversial aspects of "16 and Pregnant" and its spin-off, "Teen Mom," is the idea that the cast of the show has become rich and famous for having a baby during their teenage years. Many believe this is counterproductive to what the show preaches, which is that taking precautions to avoid having a child as a teenager is important (via CNN).

It seems a bit counterproductive when former cast members of the show go on to become millionaires. According to Mommy Things, former cast members Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, and Catelynn Lowell all have net worths estimated at over 1 million dollars.

Many critics of the show have assumed that girls intentionally get pregnant to get on the show (via The Week). However, the likelihood of that seems slim.

As of now, with no official 7th season announcement, there is no cast.

There's a spin-off featuring past cast members

"16 and Pregnant" has led to "Teen Mom," but some casual viewers of the show may be unaware that there is another spin-off from the series. According to Distractify, the show "Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant" profiles moms-to-be who are outside of the 16-year-old cast concern for "16 and Pregnant" but are still young enough to be featured on a show about teen parents.

The show features new cast members, but they also pull from prior "16 and Pregnant" moms. The most recent season of the show added Madisen Beith from season 6 of "16 and Pregnant," who won over viewers with her sweet relationship with her father. The 18-year-old had a rocky relationship with the father of her daughter, which is a major storyline on "Young and Pregnant."

According to Pop Culture, the pair are working on their relationship for the sake of their daughter. "Right now we're working things out," she added, "Everything's going pretty good I guess." They are hoping to give their daughter a stable home with both parents involved.
