Orlando Bloom's Tattoos: A Complete Guide

Orlando Bloom has lived quite a life. At just three years old he saw his stepfather walk uneasily out of his office after just having had a stroke, and at age 20 he had his own brush with death when he fell from a fourth-story window and was told he would never walk again (via The Guardian). He, of course, recovered from the fall and went on to marry and divorce, welcome two children, and deliver iconic performances to the world as some of the most memorable characters in recent cinema.

Along the way, Bloom has amassed quite the collection of tattoos. As someone who has experienced some dramatic ups and downs in his 44 years of life, it comes as no surprise that many of his tattoos have a deep meaning attached to them. Celebrities are just like us, though, and he does have a couple of permanent mistakes under his belt. Well, just above his belt, but we'll get to that.

Orlando Bloom was young when he first got inked

Orlando Bloom likes to pack tons of meaning into his tiny tattoos, but that wasn't always the case. Like most first tattoos, Bloom isn't exactly proud of the ink he received the first time he went in for a tattoo. On his stomach sits a small sun that he claims he received when he was younger and more naive. The tattoo is actually visible in Mark Ruffalo's "Sympathy For Delicious" on Bloom's character The Stain (via Celeb Answers). As The Stain, as well as with a few other of Bloom's roles, additional fake tattoos were added around his already existing ink.

The next time Bloom added some permanent ink to his skin, he made sure it had a bit more meaning attached to it. After filming wrapped in his role as Legolas in "The Lord Of The Rings" series, Bloom and a number of his castmates got matching tattoos to commemorate what they considered to be a positive experience. When asked by The Guardian when he was at his happiest, Bloom recalled his time as Legolas and said, "When I was about to embark on filming 'The Lord Of The Rings,' prior to any kind of fame or notoriety, full of hope and dreams, and excitement of the adventures ahead." Bloom's tattoo is the number 9 in Elvish, per Celeb Answers.

Orlando Bloom's tattoos include touching tributes to his dogs

In February of 2020, Orlando Bloom and his partner, Katy Perry, tragically lost their poodle named Mighty. Bloom was heartbroken about the loss, even telling The Guardian that the event marked the last time he'd cried. "He was out of my sight for just seven minutes; he went out on an adventure and didn't come back, and was taken by a coyote, I think. It was awful, really painful," he told the publication. "He taught me about love and loyalty, and how the connection between living beings can be."

Bloom had adopted the dog in 2017 and the pair had been best buds ever since (via Inked Mag). To immortalize Mighty's memory, Bloom had his four-legged BFF's name tattooed by his heart above a spade enclosed in a heart.

Bloom also has a tattoo on his arm to honor his rescue dog, Sidi, who passed away in 2016 after developing liver disease. The ink features an outline of the dog's head as well as "SIDI" written in block lettering (via Celeb Answers).

Orlando Bloom had a mishap with his most recent tattoo

Orlando Bloom received his "Sidi" tattoo at the same time he went under the needle to fix a tattoo that he famously misspelled on his arm. In what can be considered a true Pinterest fail, Bloom approached his tattoo artist, Balazs Bercsenyi, with a photo he found on Pinterest that he believed to depict the correct morse code spelling of his son's name, Flynn. Upon completion, the tattoo appeared to spell out "Frynn."

According to the Huffington Post, two morse code specialists insisted that it looked more like gibberish than a name. Berscenyi said he learned a valuable lesson that day: "Never fully trust what your clients find on Pinterest" (via Today). Luckily, the fix was as simple as adding an extra dot, and it gave Bloom the chance to pay tribute to his beloved dog Sidi.

Bloom has had his fair share of tattoos, but not without a regret or two along the way. Taking his time to select ink with great meaning to him has left him with some truly beautiful markings. His tributes to his son and dogs are touching, and we're assuming that a tribute for his daughter, Daisy Dove, is on the way next.
