Everything We Know About Elaine Welteroth's Sudden Departure From The Talk
Elaine Welteroth is leaving "The Talk" after less than a year as a co-host on the show. On August 31, 2021, Welteroth shared her news in a statement. "It is an absolute honor for anyone, but especially a young Black woman, to occupy space on-air where our perspectives are largely underrepresented," the statement reads, per Entertainment Tonight. "It was gratifying to be able to show up as my authentic self in front of a live national audience every day in a world as divided as ours and to stay true to myself and what I stand for."
The statement continued, "I came to 'The Talk' to break out of my own echo chamber and to join a diverse cast in helping to bridge some of the divides in our world through conversation and empathy. I'm proud of how I represented myself and my community. But as I always say: when the music changes, so must your dance!"
"I will miss my talented co-hosts and crew and I wish them the very best," she concluded. "Thanks to all those who tuned in every day. I'm excited to continue these necessary conversations in my work and to share my upcoming creative projects soon."
Elaine's exit marks shifting tides at The Talk
Elaine Welteroth isn't the only one leaving "The Talk." The daytime talk show finds itself in flux after just weeks ago, Carrie Ann Inaba also announced her upcoming departure (per Deadline). This leaves the show in a scramble to find some new hosts, ideally women of color, prior to the September 13th season premiere date. Welteroth became a full-time panelist at the same time as Amanda Kloots, replacing Eve and Marie Osmond on the show's panel.
"We wish Elaine all the best. We are grateful for her passion, enthusiasm, and insight she brought to the show daily," show producers Heather Gray and Kristin Matthews said in a statement. "Her openness and meaningful conversations were attributes we admired and always appreciated." Of course, Twitter has mixed reviews about the announcement.
"Whatta mess. Everyone is so excited to join and before you remember their name they're on the way out #thetalk," one fan tweeted regarding news of the departure.
"Awww, I'm sad to hear this," another fan chimed in. "I loved @ElaineWelteroth's contributions to their daily discussions. She had a refreshing and important perspective."
